I thought it was fine. I'm excited for Netflix's take as I thought their Castlevania was leagues better than the last anime and the previous games. So I'm hoping they do a good job.

I'm hit or miss on another DMC3 redux. I have nostalgia for 3 but nostalgia can run its course.I'm looking for something bolder as DMC has never been able to move past it.

Instead of what we got with 4, I would've enjoyed more adventures set after 3 but before 1 so I'm hoping they deliver.

I don't know about this. Still better than the '07 show but Limp Bizkit? I guess? It's not that it's bad but I don't know that it's fitting.
Anyway, I'm gonna go scrub through it a bit. I saw things that seemed like they'll be of note on the show but went by really fast.

Is it just me, or does it have a westernisation/DmC reboot vibe to it? I ended up hating that game.

Plus, knowing the way Castlevania went, this is going to have s*x in it too (i.e. Nero origins).

I'd take the anime over this. Looks like I'll be keeping my distance.

I saw it a few more times, just to scrub it, and this is a huge reminder that this is the showrunner's big budget fanfic. There's too much stuff that doesn't belong and it would not make sense for it to be there. That, in it self, is what it is. It's not as if the guy didn't give us a heads up from the start.

As usual, I have thoughts that I wanted to share.

At first I thought all of these swords were relevant to the series but I don't recognize any of the ones in the background.

They look like generic blades. Why only the blades, though. I think they got them all but they could've even put the death sentence ornamental sword from 1.

We also got the Yamato, which we heard that Vergil was in it but in what capacity? We'll have to wait, I suppose but I have an odd theory. I'll talk about that down a few.

That's the thing, though. Are these just an easter eggs? This implies that all these weapons will be featured in some way shape of form which leads to ask, is Lucia going to be in this? Arius and his homunculi are.

And if it's not him it's someone that fits too much. Also, why? Isn't that too many people? If it's a fanfic it's too loaded. There might be too many strings. I'd be happy to see Lucia but wouldn't it be better to split the narrative? Or maybe they will. Maybe all of these things will be different episodes of seasons (if it's seasons, though, why put it in this one's opening?).

This, by the way, is how I knew this was a fanfic. The Cavaliere definitely didn't belong in this time period but when I saw the second image I remembered that they showed the Echidna from 4 in the trailer from a few months ago, which I'm assuming that's her on the left. This is all one big potluck of elements from the franchise. I'd bet a dollar we see Gru or his kids.

I suppose we can assume that this isn't Trish in the Cavaliere.

As for the wabbit. I am going to say that I think in this story Vergil is the rabbit. The rabbit in the manga was very stoic. He was a gentlemanly character with good manners and a 'polite' presence. He was the sane to the hatter's insane. He certainly didn't smile like a villain and did not swing any kind of weapon.

The thing that led me to this was the fact that in this pic he's using a very similar sword to the Forced Edge, especially in the silhouette in the background. There's also a small part where he cut's a soldier's head off (not shown). The rabit was absolutely not a swordsman back then.
vlcsnap-2025-01-31-00h57m28s693.png
By the way, this looks to me like a clear reference to the manga.

I don't know if that's supposed to be fingers of wings but it looks like the 5 logo to me.
vlcsnap-2025-01-31-00h53m45s842.png

I really hate this whole one food character thing. Someone here said it best, they turned Dante into a ninja turtle and that's not a good thing. Eats pizza, strawberry sundays and beer. You'd get sick of it after one week (not to mention getting sick from it but I'll forgo that part). If it was junk food it'd be fine, still a dumb but acceptable thing, but only that? There is a difference between being fictional and being a straight up cartoon and we've crossed that with this. I'm hoping this isn't all they show him eating.

I'm wondering if this is going to be the people who trained Lady. I'm going to guess that this is some kind of demon fighting organization. There really is one of two things: good guys or bad guys. I'm not sure I like their set up, though. One guy looks like a discount Doomguy, the two on the side look like Batman characters with that shading and the guy seems like standard corporate badguy look. I do like the design of the woman, though, she gives me adult action anime from the 90's vibes. I also shouldn't complain. I'll take standard corporate badguy look over something else that just looks dumb any day of the week.

It's getting pretty late. I'll finish this up later.

That looks like red queen in the pic too , meaning nero could be in it

So who is going to voice nero since his voice actor is doing the role of dante. This anime will be all over the place.

The back left sword is vendetaa from DMC2 @berto , looks like yamato rebellion red queen alastor force edge agni and rudra and vendetta to me.

Oh, I know. I was talking about the ones behind all of those. The ones that are only silhouettes. Every sword in the series seems to be on display. Well, except for Lucia's alternates and the death sentence... and the Sparda, though, that is the same as the forced edge.

Ah, ya no idea what those swords are whatsoever

Maybe they are done that way because the show will have their own devil arms, and they are not set on the final design yet. Or maybe it is a big nothing burger ha ha

Tbh, DMC's environments have always been pretty western besides DMC4 which is a shame. I still believe DMC4 and DmC had the best environments in the franchise, even if they aren't my favourite DMC games. As for s-x scenes, Adi (the director) is Indian, and much of the time their culture is hyperfixated on sex. Not every Indian, but the stereotype exist for a reason.

@Vergil's Waifu
the 3rd game had a stage set in a strip club and is rated m.

the sex scenes just feel like the next step.

@DoomSlayer87_Sss
Nero might be a toddler so we might not have to worry about that right now. Them jumping ahead so much would be a mistake for me.

@XELNAGATYLER
do you have to bring in his heritage into it? could it just not be that he's doing a cartoon for adults?

I don't approve of strip clubs, but you don't see anything explicit in there. I gave my reason for mentioning heritage and the reality is, you don't need s-x scenes to make your show mature.

my point was that more adult oriented content will incorporate more explicit sexual content, especially from other countries. Singling out his heritage was unnecessary.

But if I said "I am sure the show will be great because indians have great work ethic" you wouldn't go on at me like you are now. I don't care to discuss further. Have a nice day.

I'm fine with satirical elements like the Reboot but better done. DMC's detective angle allows it a case of the week style setup. So doing episodes that touch on those concerns are fine with me.

So, what was I saying?

I'm really not sure what to make of all these. Are the references actual things that will come up in the show or are they just references to the source material. If it's just references then they're there for no real reason than just to please the audience or to show them that they know the material, which isn't great. On the other hand, if these are part of the show then, back to what I said, won't it be too bloated? It's only 8 episodes. Is there enough room to get to Fortuna, Mundus and whatever original story they want to tell?

vlcsnap-2025-01-31-00h57m02s071.png
I'm wondering if the order of the sword emblem is not a reference to Fortuna as much as it is to Sparda. Personally, I think it's more related to Nero since the Red Queen did pop up in the first few seconds.

There's a lot of Sparda references here, which could mean anything. They could be just a mention to the character, being so important to the story, or maybe he'll get an appearance.

vlcsnap-2025-01-31-01h08m12s475.png

This one was from the anime. It's the statue of Sparda in the episode with the brothers. I never liked that image and I find it odd that they put it in here as an actual representation of what Sparda looked like. I always saw it as the anime production team not really knowing the source material.
vlcsnap-2025-01-31-01h07m14s453.png

There's a big emphasis with this neon green in this footage. It's green and red on this one, not red and blue.
Here, I'm wondering is this is supposed to be her eyeballs.
vlcsnap-2025-01-31-01h00m36s177.png

It's funny, I always thought that Lady's eyes were red and blue but here's it's green.

vlcsnap-2025-01-31-01h15m51s679.png
She also looks pretty mad at every point.

I got curious and so I went and checked out the '07 anime to see what her eye color was and it can be pretty ambiguous. They looked blue to me but every time I want to commit to one color I see too much of the other.

They look somewhat turquoise on these but most of the time they looked pretty blue to me. At least you can see why anyone would think blue.

I used to know that her eyes were blue but that opening got me double guessing myself so I went to the original source. Well, that didn't help.
z-lady-devil-may-cry-and-1-more.png
They look pretty turquoise (which is a mix of green and blue) with a hint of hazel. Guess it doesn't really matter. I don't want to turn this into a green eye/blue eye thing, lest we turn into a Sonic situation.

Anyway. It's odd to me that they turn everything green when Vergil's color is blue. Even the amulet. The jewel is red so that other half is representative, not literal.
vlcsnap-2025-01-31-01h07m03s320.png
The thing is, red's negative, the opposite color on the color wheel is green. I got a little time and figured I've gone too deep now, might as well go all in. I pulled up photoshop and made an all red layer and then inverted the color and it was this turquoise green. I hope this is a choice just for the opening and not the actual color schemes for Dante and Vergil.

I'm not crazy about these demon designs. I really hated most of the ones for the '07 anime so it's an improvement, sure, but, what we got now, I'm not loving it.

By the way. I mentioned that this l mentioned that his seemed to me like a reference to the manga when Dante turns into a huge demon.
vlcsnap-2025-01-31-00h57m28s693.png
Well, I still stand by that but that head, looking at it again, I wonder if it's also a reference to the Gilgamesh boss. He might look like a Godzilla thing more than a mechanical insect but those horns.

I have to say, I don't love this logo.
vlcsnap-2025-01-31-01h16m22s548.png
The text itself is fine but the silhouette isn't doing it for me. It's too detailed. The best logos are simple, you can make them with basic shapes. The DMC ones tend to be a bit more complicated but they're acceptable because they are still simple, recognizable, shapes that can be easily replicated. You could take it and redraw any of them under one minute if you traced them. 5's wings are as complicated as it should get. This silhouette is not simple, it'd take a while to replicate, even if you traced it. It's good for promotional art, like a poster, but not as a logo.

Is it just me, or does it have a westernisation/DmC reboot vibe to it? I ended up hating that game.
Well, yeah. Just like there's a whole bunch of DMC references here there'll probably be a few DmC ones, too. I remember people said they saw some of it since the first trailer. I think even I said so about his design.
