"was the general consensus among casual moviegoers and some MCU fans from the day it was released" was it? really?

Pretty much so. The only group to give this movie near universal acclaim were movie critics. Check the user scores, check MCU fansites, you'd see at least a few threads all like "dae think black panther is average!?!?!" and pretty much everyone's in agreement. Yet, somehow, this opinion is still paraded as some forbidden sin for reasons.

ahh, yes, i'm confused about that too.. i'm actually being suspicious at the overwhelming appreciation to black panther.

I think it's absurd to claim it's even on par with better Marvel movies. I take GotG and first Ironman every day of the week over it.

I personally liked it. They cocked up the action towards the end and the CGI, but the emotional conflict was much more compelling than many superhero films.

To each their own, though. I just wish people didn't act like there's a Black Panther circlejerk among the fans and the movie buffs when everyone nowadays seems to agree that the movie's mediocre.
