Oh my god, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I hope at least director did some research, producers are thankfully not that deeply involved in the making of the movie.

What, you mean you didn't play Call of Sam: Advanced Fisher feat. Michael Bay Explosions? That game was like, the essence of Tom Clancy's vision! Seriously, I couldn't be the least surprised by this. Video Game movies are ALWAYS attached to people who don't play or know the games at all.

He said that because SC is an FPS with no specific story attached to it, they can augment it freely into an action Tom Hardy movie, which is worrying me. I know that it's the director and the scriptwriters who call the shots, but it's still concerning that Ubisoft agreed to let someone this uninformed about the franchise work on it.

Ubisoft also agreed on both the Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed movie. This is just another bad decision to add to their mountain of bad decisions.

@WolfOD64 I respectfully disagree. Prince of Persia, though not the breakthrough that videogame-to-movie adaptations need, is actually pretty good and Assassin's Creed was, in paper, set up to be a great movie - it had a great cast, a skilled director, the changes were minimal - it's just that the movie itself sucked.

This statement however is one big red flag.

Producers do have creative input and often are the ones who pitch writers/directors they know on potential projects. They aren't just penny pinchers even if they are concerned about the bussiness end.

I'm not against the idea of video game movies telling their own stories rather than being straight adaptations but this statement wasn't the best way to win fans over.

I think the best medium for video game adaptations is Netflix series. With the burden of adapting a colossal amount of the source material, you run the risk of exceeding the typical runtime of a film or just omitting/altering elements to satisfy a blockbuster...the latter of which seems to be common practice. The Castlevania NF series succeeded precisely because it didn't have that problem.

@WolfOD64 netflix is a streaming service than a whole seperate medium. You probably mean animated series which i agree with.

I'm not against live action but they haven't shown they can pull it off.

@Z218 The thing about both a live-action or animated series is that it would be just that: a SERIES. Multiple episodes allow for breathing room to incorporate as much source material as possible, and do it at a stable pace. I think the reason most live-action attempts suck is because studios spend so much money trying to get star power that they don't hire writers that understand the material.

@WolfOD64 tbh i dont think any video game movies had star power since the mario movies. Till AC and Prince of persia they were more B-movie or DTV affairs. Its more the creative side didn't know what to do with the material.
