There's a ton of Spaghetti Western influences as well. Boba Fett is based off of Clint Eastwood's Man w/ No Name Character, Jango Fett is an homage to Franco Nero's "Django", and Cad Bane's hat, voice, and mannerisms are modeled off of the legendary Lee Van Cleef.
He continued to look to influences when making the Clone Wars show with his daughter, Katie Lucas, even reviving old concept art, unused ideas, and Expanded Universe stories long abandoned. If anyone says Lucas never made anything good after the original Star Wars, they're living in complete ignorance of the Clone Wars Series.
I mean, my favorite anime space opera has characters named Commander Global, Maximilain Genius, and Roy Focker. Yes...Focker. The last of which whose voice performance was apparently Reuben Langdon's inspirational basis for his portrayal of Dante in DMC4.
I gave up trying to tell people it stood for "Full Frontal Assault". Now I just roll with the jokes. At least it wasn't anything to do with General Butt Naked. O_O
In all seriousness, I would definitely recommend "Gundam Unicorn" which Full Frontal hails from. Certainly one of my favourite series from the franchise. Plus they really nailed the English dub IMO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yclOE9k5I-8&t=426s
I tried getting into Gundam the other day whilst taking a small break from Fist of the North Star, by watching the original series, and I couldn't get into it. It just reeked of Star Wars, which is understandable considering it was made in '79, but it was really immersion-breaking. I'll be trying 0080 one of these days, as it's an OVA.
