"Yen, I had lost my memory." "Really? Is that your excuse?" - talking about Geralt and Triss love story

What do you mean, bitch? Having his memory wiped by the freaking Wild Hunt doesn't seem enough of a valid reason for you?

I've always said it, Yennefer as a character is really good, for various reasons, but as a person, goddamn she's such a bitch sometimes.

umm I don't really consider her good character tbh. She's pretty one-dimensional. She's basically egocentric control freak who flipped out every time something goes against her wishes. All her big love act reduced to "I want" far to often. To me she always was very obnoxious and tbh I would prefer they kept her out of Witcher 3 or just killed her prior the game or something.

No, I think now you're getting blinded by your hate towards her (does that remind you of somebody in this very forum...? No need to answer don't worry...).

Yeah she's a bitch, arrogant and everything on the surface, but as seen both in the books and in the game (don't worry I won't spoil anything), under that behavior, she cares a big deal about Geralt and Ciri, and her friends, going under torture and even against her own kind to protect them. That's all except one-dimensional.

Me, I am not fond of her because of her behavior, but it can't be denied the character development she went through throughout the novels and the layers of character she has. Sapkowski is also aware of all that and in fact he purposefully built the character like that, so that it is both unlikable and likable at the same time, and that is brilliant.

As for keeping her out of Witcher 3, no that was never gonna happen. They stated several times that this would be a much more personal story, as opposed to Witcher 2, concerning Geralt's dears. Yennefer is a big part of that. Leaving her out would have been both stupid and counter-productive.

The problem with her character that yes she kinda cared about geralt and ciri, but its only because she wanted them for her if you know what you mean. She wanted that they acted like she wants, she wanted that they had fate that she wanted for them and more or less she done everything only from perspective of personal gain.
Innsmouth

She went against her own kind, because she never really give a damn about them in the first place. If she had any gain from it she would send them all to get burned by church and wouldnt felt any remorse from it.

many say that Triss is manipulative, but at least Triss was conserned about anyone else besides those who interested in her. Yen on the other hand was cold-hearted to anyone besides those she had any interest in.

As for Geralt and Ciri, she didn't had any remorse to openly cheat on Geralt after they were brought together and thus she treated him more as pet than an equal and as for Ciri she always wanted child and was willing to commit mass murder to have her own children. So once again her care was only to satisfy her personal desire.

True, she cheated on him. That is something undeniable. However that was at the beginning of their relationship and you're ignoring everything that came after the Sword of Destiny book.

She developed since then, and grew very attached to Geralt and Ciri, to the point of basically going up against EVERYONE to protect them, when she only had everything to lose and nothing to gain by doing so. She put herself in everyone's crosshair for Geralt and Ciri, her life on the line. That's NOT something you do just to compensate a personal desire, the books touch on that pretty heavily.

I dunno how you read them (or maybe you don't remember them), but your view is pretty distorted by the bad sides, ignoring the good ones. Yennefer is a pretty complex character, and so is her arc.
Foxtrot94

That said, do I think she's the ideal love partner? Hell no. But that's the thing, she was built like that because a complicated love is far more interesting than a simple "they lived happy ever after". It's despicable on a personal level, but not narratively. Read interviews to Sapkowski about the matter.

So it all comes down to this: as a person, she is unlikable and obnoxious, BUT inside, holds deep genuine selfless feelings about those she holds dear.

Like I said you missed the point that she went against everyone because she never cared about anyone. She could commit mass murder just to achiever her goals (like in that short story with dragon). Besides aside from Ciri or Geralt she didn't really had anybody who cared about her.

I read some interviews with Sapjkowski, but I also read his books. And what he tried to show didn't really match up with books. She never tried to change. She only tried to force Geralt to adjust to her bitchy character.

and thats without mentioning curse that bind them together. For me complex character is somebody who can show different sides of character depending on situation. In her case, that really wasn't the case. Her arrogant and stuck-up personality never changed or evolved. she remained like this till her death (or not depending wether games are canon)
