  • The ending is kind of foreseen throughout the entire story, by mostly every character. Each one only seems there to serve a purpose that has been served before. Neo is the sixth One, and probably not the last One. It's like a story that repeats itself, a never ending hell. I see it as an eternal limbo. It's very dark, at least, that's how I view it.

I believe that there is a way in which the story can end. But at the moment, there is no evident peace. That's what my new story is trying to achieve.
However much I want to agree that he survives, I simply can't for these reasons.

Neo sacrifices himself to save humanity. He makes that choice to accept defeat at the hands of Smith. Smith is the opposite of Neo. Therefore, opposites attract. Without one, the other can't exist. Without Smith, Neo serves no purpose. Therefore you would assume he was also deleted alongside Smith.

However with this ending, The Matrix would surely reload. All evidence supports that it isn't the end. The Oracle says that she believes Neo will return one day, when Sati asks if they will ever see him again. However this could simply indicate that Neo will return again when the system is reloaded again. It doesn't mean he'll return within the future. Also, Programs within The Matrix can only reside within The Matrix. As they are just codes, like you say. However, why is The Oracle not deleted after Zion is saved? Surely her purpose as a Program is fulfilled, you would think? Perhaps not ;)
As are enchiladas, for that matter

Aww, now I'm craving mexican food ><
The people stuck inside The Matrix are trapped by the machines. Their actual bodies are inside pods. They're in a huge pod field, being harvested as a power source to feed the machines. The humans created the machines, but the machines got too powerful and took over. The only free humans travel into this World to free Neo. Neo enters into The Matrix in order to destroy the Agents, Programs protecting the minds of those trapped inside. Once he defeats them, he will free the humans. However, he must venture to the place where it began, The Source. There's a theory that Neo is not entirely human, I support the theory. So much indicates that Neo must also be part machine. Morpheus believes what The Oracle told him, that he'll find The One. But Neo reveals that the prophecy was a lie. Morpheus' belief in Neo remains. Neo sacrifices himself, accepting defeat at the hands of Smith. Once the inevitable happens, there is no purpose for either. Smith is deleted. What happens to Neo is a mystery.
You have the general gist behind the films, but the story has a lot more background detail.

Would you find it rude of me if I was to enlighten you on this background detail? =/
Do you know much about The Matrix? For instance, have you watched the films? Or looked into the meanings behind the story? =/
