Our lives without money

OK so i have been noticing that a lot of people these days are complaining about how they want things but they don't have any money. And that they believe that Money is the secret of life. And i won't be surprised if someone told me that there is a religion where people worship money and believe that its their god. And seeing how our ancestors had a long great life before the idea of money was discovered (the human race still exist and its not considered as an endangered is a proof of that).

That acually bring some questions.

What exactly is money?
What makes money important to us?
What will happen if we permanently discard money?
Can we live? Will our lives be better or worse?

Before there was money, people exchanged goods and services for other goods and services. There are some folks who are trying to bring back that system, but overall we are too deep into "service or goods for money, money for service or goods, and toss a coin or ten to government" to just transition smoothly during our lifetime. Or next several lifetimes, for that matter.

With consumerism we have actually come close to money-worshiping religion when you think about it.

Money is important to me because without it I can't get things society and technological development tell me I must have. Or, you know, things like food and heating and other stuff that I need to survive. We could technically survive without electricity, but try doing that in an urban setting.

We are slaves to money, because we have come to the point where without money there is no us, everything we need and do spins around money and we lost most of the abilities to live without it.

True. But in order to do service to get money. we need to give money for that service. a good example is getting some sort of transportaion to go to work. If you don't have the means of transportations. You will be unable to go to work. and if you are unable to go to work. You won't get money. And not having money means that you can't get a mean of transportations. of course you can ask your workmate or friend to give you a lift which is considered a service. One day you will have to pay for that service with another service balance the equation.

I do agree about that these days we need money. But most of us never saw it in physical form. because most of it is in digital form.

Oh geez skull, just get an earthship (which costs less than a five-year-old Subaru), some land to put it on, an aquaponics tank, and a stirling and/or atmospheric generator.

Now borrow money from a bank, run off with it, and build all this within a hidden location.

Money is any item or verifiable record that is generally accepted as payment for goods and services and repayment of debts in a particular country or socio-economic context. The main functions of money are distinguished as: a medium of exchange; a unit of account; a store of value; and, sometimes, a standard of deferred payment. Any item or verifiable record that fulfills these functions can be considered money.

Yes that is true. But money is a number. and the value of that number changes from one day to the next. If you compared the value of 1000 today to the value of 1000 50 years ago. You will see that 50 years ago the value of 1000 was much higher than todays value. Not to mention that the value of 1000 today changes from one place to another.

Money is important that it used in trade & acquire goods & services of value, it is a convenient way of paying for what's wanted or needed without resulting in carrying around sheep or whatever.
It is used to keeps our lights on, water running, allow people to live in the homes we do, buy the clothing we need to cover ourselves & the food we put on our tables.

A form of currency has been & will be around for years.
From gold coins to the dollar bill to StarTrek credits, people will always find a form of currency to pay for goods & services they want or need.
It's a matter of fair trade.

I think people can discard one form of currency for another, but the only way people could discard currency altogether is if all humanity believed in & fully embraced the idea of selflessness & gave without wanting equal trade.

Money is a drug actually. And we got addicted to it. A drug that cause a fatal ignorance of two subjects. One is the nature of money. The other is the nature of life. This ignorance leads us to trade away life for money.

So tell me is money more important than our lives?

Money is like almost everything else it cause greed.
Greed can effect everyone but not everyone is a victim of greed.

No money isn't more important than someone's life but there are those that think so.
However don't assume everyone believes that as said not everyone is greedy.
Money is necessary as i stated a few reasons why money is needed.
It's what keeps hospitals running, what help get people the treatment needed when in the hospital.
For many money isn't wanted but needed to help them live & to keep them from being homeless.
YES those same people would like MORE money but it's so they can live better off.
To not worry about being kicked from their home at 5am because the bank took it from them.

Don't look at money as the root of all evil as it is the greed in certain people that's evil.
Those are the ones who should be removed from money as the greed have corrupted them.

I agree with you. Some people are more addicted to money to others to the point where they became blind to see what is important. But because of money people have been seperated into three classes in the eyes of the people. High, Middle and low. And each class are seperated into two groups. One that cares about the people and one that don't.

And as long as there people and money there will always be greed. But if we removed one of them (Surely not humans) greed won't be able to exist.:D

The thing about greed is that it's not limited to money. You can be greedy about anything that you can posses. What you need to eliminate is the idea that those who posses more of money are automatically valued more themselves.

It's as @Viper said.
Greed is when people want more of anything.
Just as currency isn't limited to a dollar bill greed isn't limited to money.

Greed will always exist, it is one of the seven deadly sins after all.
Pride: is excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise. Pride is also known as Vanity.

Envy: Is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.

Gluttony: is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.

Lust: is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.

Wrath: is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury.

Greed: is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

Sloth: is the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.

Yes but money can make people envy each other, it can also make people lust for more money, it can make people physiclly and mentally inactive (Sloth), It can make people angry to the point where they don't have a problem to harm or kill others, We hear it a lot "You can't do anything because i am rich", or "I have a lot of money"....ETC (Pride). we have already said that it CAN causes people to be greedy, and we have heard of people throwing leftover food that they bought with money in the trash because they couldn't finish it (Gluttony).

So in other words the seven deadly sins can't exist because of humans alone. There has to be something that reacts with the humans to create the seven sins. And money CAN be one of the elements that causes the reaction and creates one or more of the seven sins.

There has probably been a lot of discussion about history were there to be no monetary exchanges for goods or services.

Let's get one things straight, right from the get go, people will take advantage of others, with or without money in the mix. How hard would it be to constantly make someone pay off the same debt if those enforcing law aren't on your side, or for them to just add more to your list of time you owe me in labor and so forth. Just because there is no money doesn't mean corruption, greed, nor poverty will go with it. There will always be those who want more and are willing to do f***ed up things to get them.

In an modern world where money isn't an issue how would you make people productive to society? Not like they got to pay rent. Food and other bare necessities wouldn't take too much difficult to take care of with simple work but really how progressive would the world be without the drive. It's not just greed, it's goals and and a demand for all to contribute. How will you pay for your games without money? What would keep anyone from just getting up and leaving without completing their work? Even with some form of trade or rewards for your work in place there will be no one to do the work that no one wants to do and usually that becomes the job of the lower classes.

The world wouldn't be better, just different. I think money is a form of social poison but I can't argue with how it affects society in both positive and negative ways.

I agree with you we can't get rid of the seven sins. But we can reduce them by changing how we look at things. Yes we need Food, Cloths, Entertainments, electricity and Medical.

BUT

You aren't understanding what i've said.
Getting rid of money won't end greed as there's always something for people to be greedy for.
The reduction of greed has to come from humanity itself.

Actually i do. The seven sins is in our nature. and we can't get rid of them permenatly. But we can try and find a way to control them. and i know that money isn't greed itself. But its ONE of the major things that make people greedy.

Most of the people these days can't have a conversation without using the word money in every sentence they say.
