"DmC hasn't do anything bad towards DMC!"

Made it a bit more popular then it already wasn't I guess is what he's trying to say.
How did DmC make DMC more popular? It sold 1.1m. You may say "WEll people went and bought DMC HD to play thosegames".
But a DMC 5 would had the same impact too as DmC, wouldn't it?
So it makes the point of "DmC made DMC more popular" look shallow. A DMC 5 game would do the same no?
Besides if DMC 4 sold 2M

And DmC sold 1.1m - how did DmC make DMC more popular when alot of people refused to buy DmC?
It only seemed to have made DMC less popular.

Maybe he was reffering to the fact that it made more people play the games, and others to discover the DMC games, just like my friend. He found about DMC through DmC.
It's not such a bad thing.

And yes, many people still play the DMC games though tournaments, with friends etc. This doesn't mean someone forgot about DMC,because DMC it's a challenging game after all,and you just want to play the hell out of it to unlock those modes.
DmC,even if some may like it or not, still made people fans of the games and many to play them again.
I can assure because most of my friends did the same. And I did the same.

But had DMC 5 been released and not DmC, wouldnt it do the same thing as DmC? Make more people play DMC games before DMC 5?

So i dont see what makes DmC's case extra ordinary.

SpawnShooter

This partys getting crazy
DmC served its purpose and brought DMC back into light. Simple as that.

But...but, DMC5 should have been the one...

No because people would look at a DMC5 as "Another Devil may Cry game with the same Dante as last time, and the same story as last time". Granted, I don't know if that would have been the case, but its the same as you not knowing if it was DMC5, would it bring as much attention.

You know the above answer isn't going to be enough for that individual. Get ready to be lectured (granted, an real lecture would require actual facts, but you see what I'm saying).

Just tell her what she wants to hear.

"DURR... DMC FAHV (five) WUD HAVE BIN JUS' HUNKY-DORY AND OUTSOLD DA DmSHE."

All mocking aside, DMC5 would have outsold DmC (but I honestly don't think by all that much) and it would have had a better combat engine.

The dialogue and story would have still been laughable, though. "Phuc you" is still preferable to Dante dancing around in confetti like freakin' Bayonetta.

DMC1 Dante would have shaken his head in disappointment. He never would have lowered himself to such horrid standards. At least he had some dignity.

What a disgrace to DMC1 and 3's legacy.

I asked Dragonmaster, how it brought DMC into the light, and now your telling me it's all speculation. I haven't speculated that DmC have brought people away from DMC or towards it. I simply asked Dragonmaster how DmC "served it's purpose" and brought DMC into the light.

LAST I CHECKED and this is a fact:
DmC was made to ensure DMC was not to die by appealing to wider audience and at same time create more money for Capcom.

DMC 4 sold 2M
DmC sold 1.1m

So how exactly did DmC bring DMC into the light, whatever that means.

sales aren't always the solution. it got people back into the series by re-popularizing it. my friend, who literally knows jack and **** about videogames looked at me. it was raining pretty hard and i was wearing my favorite trench coat. and he said: you look so much like dante. and another guy heard and said. holy crap you do. then i asked how they knew about dante and they said that they saw some news while surfing the internet. so, the controversy got the series recognized again

How can you say "DmC made DMC or the serie known" when you also say "so the controversy got the series recognized again".
See the contradiction?

Your saying the reason DMC received more attention is because of DmC, then you also say because of the controversy. The controversy was not caused by DmC, but by fans reaction to DmC.
If fans had not reacted the way they did to DmC, there would not been a controversy.

My point: The fans reaction to DmC drew in people's attention to DmC and DMC.

i'm saying that after DMC4 came out and the hype died down, DmC brought it back up. and yes you have a point. if the fans had reacted to DmC as a typical game, it would have been just another installment. but i'm not speaking as a DmC fan or a DMC fan. i'm speaking as a typical guy. if DmC hadn't had that **** fest fiasco then the popularity of it wouldn't have been as high. it might have been high for the wrong reasons, but it was high. people who didn't even know who dante was knew about the new devil may cry (i live in a small city so everybody knows something but thats just me)

Again i don't think the people who noticed DMC and Dante noticed it because of DmC, but because of fans reactions. One being the infamous report of people sending death threats to Ninja theory.

But DmC didn't do anything what DMC 5 wouldn't do for original serie. DmC did not from what i can see, bring DMC back into the light.
You may say "DmC made people interested in DMC because they played DmC and then they went and played DMC", but i'd argue the reason people got into DmC in first place was because of the controversy surrounding it, and that people who played a DMC 5 (had it been released instead of DmC) would then also go and check out past games.

So again, i don't think DmC did anything for DMC serie that DMC 5 wouldn't do. And if people got into DMC through DmC - one can probably track their curiosity to try DmC back to the controversy.
And the controversy was built up by fans reaction thus if anyone made DMC or DmC more known it was the fans who reacted towards DmC, especially the ones who sent death threats.

i never said that DMC5 wouldn't have done the same thing. but at the same time i am. DmC was a part of the big entertainment reboot boom. and it was one of those reboots that caught flack and as a result a certain popularity level.

I don't think DmC made DMC more popular.

Devil May Cry sold 2.16m (PS2)
DMC 2 sold 1.7M (PS2)
DMC 3 sold 1.3m (PS2)
DMC 3 sold 1.3m (PS2)
DMC 4 sold 2.3M (PS3/Xbox360)
Source

DmC sold 1.15m (PS3/Xbox360)

So as you can see, the sales aren't supportive of DmC making DMC more popular or draw more attention.
If you compare DmC's sale with DMC 3 even if DmC was on 2 platforms, DMC 3 which was on one platform had 150K more units sold than DmC.

And i am saying is that, the reason DmC got so much attention, which was then projected on DMC when the DmC buyers liked DmC, is not because of DmC itself but because of the fans reaction to DmC. The fans reacted, gaming media reported on it and people noticed this.

Compared to DMC 4, DmC has sold over 1M units less. THAT IS NOT A GOOD INDICATION that DmC has made DMC more popular.
