DmC: Getting it Right

Cool! I hadn't read that interview. :)

So, nice to see that the combat is god and the plot is focusing on characters.

For those who said Dante would be talking the F word in the entire game, he only talks once and during a boss fight ( at least until now), so that's not bad.

Can't blame them though, it's purely Capcom's and NT's fault for just promoting those scenes. I guess they thought this kind of irreverence would gain the old fans back, but all it did was push them further away lol

Weeeeelllllll....

There is nothing wrong with cursing, I do it most every day and so do most people of most ages. The problem is that in books, movies, and games too much comes off as juvenile. When a character swears too much it ether need to be part of the character or it's a 12 year old writing the lines and thinks putting f*ck on every one is cool (and his friends would provably agree).

When I say complain, I'm actually refering to all the youtube video comments and such where people just say "F*** YOU" in case no one got that xD

When I first heard the cursing match, I didn't really care. Why? Poison said **** you twice, Dante said it once, its not like he was saying it multiple times.

I also noticed that they've been removing cursing. Before the Nightclub scene, Dante writes f-you on the clipboard, and a few seconds later, a dancer (ironically dressed as an angel) says f-you to Dante after he pushes her away (badass as ****). They removed the latter f-bomb.

Really? Where'd you see the footage with the removed cursing?
 
It also happened with Malice, when they used to say during The Escape gameplay **** YOU, now they say STOP
 
I too really liked the "I'm your prom date you ugly sack of SH*T!" It was the combination of the "prom date" and "ugly sack" remarks. They aren't heard too often, so it was amusing to hear them.

And while I do say it's a bit of Capcom and NT's fault for showing off those portions with swearing so prominently, it's still dumb for people to get so incredibly up in arms over it >.<

Yeah, The Walking Dead game has LOTS of swearing and you don't see anyone going up in arms about that. And then they're sad enough to curse themselves about DmC, completely going against their 'swearing is WRONG' rants that they keep I whining on about.

People swear, you swear, I swear, that's life. If they can't accept that, tough.

I find it funny the amount of swearing they do, too, however from what they've yelled at me, it's that "Dante never swore." Just like Dante was "too cool to smoke," people feel Dante's swearing makes him a "try hard," which is apparently the new way of putting down people. They disregard his anger problems, and focus on the cumulative six to eight seconds of swearing we've seen so far that make up a ten hour game.

The way I see it, Dante has always been a gigantic dork. A Ninja Turtle in every sense of the word, sans shell. That was one of his most endearing qualities, though. It was never really all that "cool." His actions were, but his personality wasn't...it was sorta juvenile. So, seeing a lot of the juvenile vitriol from the people seems logical, when you factor in the people who truly think Dante was "cool" and that DmC is a complete affront to that...it makes sense.

"Cool" is mostly subjective anyway, though...

Absolutely. Cool is one of those words that is overused to the point where it is practically meaningless now.

And yeah, Dante has always been a dork; it's one of the more lovable things about the original, lol. One cannot say things like "Flock Off, Feather-Face" without being somewhat of a dork. In DMC4 in particular they kinda gave him the habit of saying all his lines like they were one-liners even when it probably would have been casual conversation otherwise. And there was nothing wrong with any of that, he was a larger than life party guy. Like you said, Michelangelo without the shell.
