Deity of the Old World
Too long have I wandered in the shadow of my father. My name is Dante.
I am writing this account 10 years after I defeated Mundus, lord of darkness.

My time here has shown me that Devils and Humans are equally capable of evil. Some time ago I thought only to kill demons but things have changed since then...
I fight with the burning spirit of justice searing through my veins.

Anyone who commits deeds against this planet will be dealt with swiftly.

I shall now tell you the story of someone who had forsaken all that I'd brought to the world when I dispatched such fiends as Mundus and Argosax.

It started 3 years ago, to the week...

The departed seraphim had left me as the protector of the Earth. I wondered what could possibly happen now that I had bound both of the Demon lords to oblivion.
My answer came the following day.

An extraordinay event that had a rather normal start.

So begins my tale and encounter with the fell axeman...

Chapter 1

The Usurper

"One born of wrath turns to one who brings misery,
A sorrowed soul of many doubts brings desolation and despair,
The grim legions shall rise again and so the final seal shall be broken, heaven shall be cast down and hell will rise and the collision will take place in the mid-realm. Life will cease to function as a biological entity and concioussness will awaken in the machines that will pillage and burn all the realms in their wrath, again the war drums of anarchy will beat against deepening darkness terrifying both deities and demons and since both of the counterbalances will be lost to a greater foe."

Right now I am not on Earth as we once knew it.
This is the work of a senseless individual. His name was Aiden.
To be fair he was a fool, he thoughtthat he was having a religeous experience of a grand sort. He told me that a figure attired in the most brilliant light had promised him rewards of power, wealth and fame in exchange for a small favor.
I thought that something was amiss when I spoke to him, he seemed distant.
When he had bade me farewell I asked "Would you mind if I came to see what happens, just in case something goes wrong" he suddenly seemed to get taller and madness flared through his eyes
"You're planning to stop me aren't you?!"
"It's not like what you think, I am a specialist in these matters, I have an intuition that something terrible is going to happen"

"Hah, May I remind you that Einstein said that that's just based on prejudices acquired by the age of 18, besides it's my choice. That's all there is to it"

"Fine, but when that power turns to helplessness, wealth turns to poverty and fame turns to infamy, 'I told you so really won't cut it'. Since it's your choice may the perils of every man, woman and child be on your head."

Yep!:)

This will be a serial thread, I'll post a chapter regularly to it and I'll try to think up some kind of epic climax trying hard to avoid cliche and putting in enough twists in the plot to make it an engaging story.

What do you think of it so far?

Deity of the Old World
Chapter 2

Well, what can I tell you...
He proceeded with his idea and attempted to steal for himself the keys to the 13 doors of the underworld. I guarded two of which. He came to me and demanded that I handed them over. I said not a chance. What did he do, he broke into my home and took both of them whilst I was sleeping, I was a bit embarassed to say the least.

I spent eight days searching for him but when I finally found him he had aquired all the keys, amulets really but they were keys the the underworld.
I shouted don't do it. Aiden smiled and said "Where's your sense of adventure Dante, norms come and go but society always remains intact. With these I shall transcend the social hierarchy and usher in a new golden age".
"Your insentives are good Aiden but for all your merits you are flawed by arrogance and stupidity, if you perform this ritual, there will be no going back. Heaven will descend and hell will ascend and this planet will be caught in the midst of a bloody and futile war that will signal the end of all realms in the form of an enemy more powerful than any god or demon."
"Dante, you aren't a bad person I can see that but what I'm trying to do here is to better understand everything below, above and on Earth, are you going to try and stop humanity achieving true wisdom?"
"Please don't do this"

Quickly he flashed a knife and slashed at me, a drop of my blood was spilled.
"What are you doing?" I demanded furiously.
"You need a demons blood as a catalyst, which, for your information isn't a list of cats." He laughed at his own apalling joke.
"This is going to be more pointless than what Jim Bristoe did"
"What did he do?"
"He invented a 2 ton pumpkin cannon that can fire pumpkins up to 5 miles away"
"Sounds handy"
"Are you insane?"
"Are you a devil?"
"No, I'm more human. I think with a clear conscience and no innocent blood is on my hands"
"Yet"

And that was when the amulets started to react...

Lol that was funny about the Jim Bristoe pumpkin launcher, "Sounds handy." Lol that was random. Anyway, keep up the good work

Deity of the Old World
Chapter 3

Needless to say, my amulet was the first to resonate. It was the only perfect amulet there, consisting of both mine and my brother's amulet. The others were individual amulets but they soon started to react as well.
I could hear a voice inside my head amongst the multitude of war drums beating out from the roots of my subconcious. It was dark, choking, restless and malicious. Uttering macabre chants of killing and raping the land.
I shouted to Aiden "Do you know what you've just done?!"
The man in front of me seemed to shrink as the cacophony in my head was worsening I thought he must be undergoing the same trauma.
Suddenly his eyes went wide and something cut right through his chest and out of him.
An axe, crudely made, sharp and black rested against the ground and a being followed it. Some kind of wraith, its eyes were grey and cold, its skin was putrefying and dark green.
It layed eyes on me and then took to the sky before I could kill it.
Hell had rose and this creature was the scout.
No time to lose, I grabbed my amulet and gave persuit.
Thus began my hunt for the fell axeman to try and stop the doom that had been cast upon this panet by that accursed, amaebic man Aiden.
It would be now against the clock as now the ritual was complete, the preparations for the clash on all sides were near completion...

Deity of the Old World
Chapter 4

"When thy soul is sorrowed beyond redemption,
And the night kisses e'er,
And the twilight sun is darkening,
Behold the end is near"

Proof that the darkness had a will of its own devils broke in from nowhere. I lacerated the rabble, my sword danced through them as if it was guiding me, awash with crimson I cleaned my blade and headed into the part of the metropolis where the puppet of the devils, Arius, had tried to open the rift before, just prior to his own death, he had second-handedly been responsible for over 1000 deaths and innumerable ruined lives.

I made my way to the last opening point to the demonic realm. I saw the scout and tried to sneak up on it, it was quite perceptive. I was spotted by it and it swung its axe, serrated and imbued with every taboo, vulgarism, and other deviant habits. In other words it was a hell spawn weapon for a hell spawn wielder.

My blade met it's axe, I released one hand and drew Ivory, shooting it through its decaying belly, black blood burst from it. This was not the end though, the blood brought shape of anything to match that of its previous host in a wide radius that was previously inanimate. Thus I was fighting grass versions of the previous enemy as well as sand, rock, paper, wood, metal and plastic.

I was fighting a batallion of the same accursed fiend!

A sorrowed soul stricken with ineffable lament, the darkness deepened, the sun's bright gold gaze turned cold, oceanic blue. The night was entwined to the day, the end was near.

Deity of the Old World
Chapter 5

I heard the bells knelling from an innermost section of my mind. It was agonising and the fiends became more and more relentless. I took it upon myself to exit the area, changing form, I flew over the battleground and headed to an area where the energy I could feel was immense. Then the clouds spiraled, a brilliant pale blue glow shone from above as down came the celestial bodies. They were all here, the 144,000 had been cast down and almost at the same time the ground split, spewing forth hellfire and a number of fiends that was incomprehensible. They engaged each other in battle, the celestial bodies wielding great-swords, naginatas and a multitude of other weapons that matched the elegance of the celestial bodies themselves. The fiends used weapons that inspire terror such as spiked clubs, scythes, hammers, serrated hand-axes and the like.
I drew Rebellion and Ivory to defend myself, I knew I couldn't take sides here, my job lay elsewhere. I changed form again and flew into the sky. I saw it coming. The threat impendant of which I was conscious of from the beginning. A great wyrm, vast in size and even more colossal in power. It roared and what had once been the battleground between the celestial bodies and the fiends had been turned into an incinerated cemetery.
I looked back at the wyrm and its eyes met mine. Its eyes were filled with contempt of legendary strength. I threw rebellion at it but it bounced off the wyrm's thick hide, barely leaving a mark. It tried to swipe me out of the air but as powerful as it was it was slow enough for me to evade its attack with relative ease.
But soon it hurled forth a flame, freezing and terrible it caught me and I was hurled down to earth, my body immobilised by the sheer coldness of it.
A few people had ran off as I came plummeting but now they cautiously approached me.
"Are you alright?" asked a woman in the group, my body was routed to the ground but I could still talk and move my arms.
"After that, no, but I'm still alive if that's what you mean"
"Yes" she replied.
"Is it still there" I asked.
"The dragon?" she asked
"Yes, the wyrm, is it still there?"
"Yes, it has landed just to the east and is laying waste to everything"
"This came about because of a fool, a fool with good intentions though. If he was still alive, he'd wish he'd listened to me"
"You knew this was going to happen?" She asked
"Not exactly like this, I just knew something unpleasant was going to stir if he carried out his plan"
"Is that common sense or foreknowledge?" She asked, I didn't know what she was trying to imply.
"A bit of both" I replied
She shook her head "No, time isn't set, if you'd have stopped him by force then none of this would have happened. Time isn't as many people believe, a set path towards a set end, it's a random chain of events that generally lead to the most obvious conclusion"
"True" I said "But we carry out the task required of us because if everything was completely chanced then the very pith and core of eternity would become randomised and absolute chaos would take over, life would continue but not as we know it"
"True but humans can adapt to nearly any change. To say otherwise would lead you through a number of logical fallacies, mostly post-hoc. The world can be repaired , no matter how much damage this wyrm does to it and it will be humans who fix it. This catastrophe will unite the world and we will make a unified effort to see a world of days renewed"
"Yes, you are right, First thing's first though" My strength had returned and I drew rebellion. And I flew into the mouth of the Underworld.

Deity of the Old World
Chapter 6

The demon world had vastly changed since my last visit. The sinewy corridors had changed a series of verandas, slick black, overlooking precipices filled with mist which rose and shrouded the horizon from me which would have otherwise been visible now it had been levelled.
I flew over, heading eastwards towards the sanctum of Sparda, the indomitable. Though Sparda was my father and we apparently shared similar ideals, I must do what I had sworn not to do. I would release the power of Sparda, his power had become so great that he had sealed the entrance to the demon world, fearing his presence would bring forth a cataclysm.

When I reached the structure, or what was left of it I steeled myself for the task ahead. I knew that the power I sought would not be easy to attain. A spear lunged from the darkness inside. I grabbed it and pulled it, rotating my hip as to pull it past me, a ghoulish guardian appeared at the end, I quickly dispatched it via handgun. A multitude of other such fiends came forth to try and bar my entry, alas to no avail, Sparda's uncanny fighting spirit tampered within my soul and my sword danced through each of the unfortunate demons lacerating them to the extent where it would no longer be possible to comprehend their previous visage.

A shot came from behaind me, lo and behold it was Lady. This time the shot wasn't intended for me, it was intended for a demon facing her. The shot hit its mark hard and the befouled carcass started to decompose instantaneously. "So, you're back" I said.
"Yeah" she replied, "I can't let you take all the credit again"
"Fine" I yielded
"Good" Was her reply.
"Just out of curiosity, what is it you are trying to accomplish by this?" I asked
"My father, he knew much of the demonic world, I have his journal, it will help both of us"
"Okay, just don't go getting yourself killed" I replied.
"Haven't you learned anything, I'm perfectly capable of looking after myself" Was the response.
"Be careful, I have buried others who spoke the same words" I replied somewhat dismissively.

We made way to the far end of the vast hall where lay the crystal of netherpower in which lay the power I sought. No sooner had we arrived at the crystal than the hall filled with a vast amout of guardian fiends. Yellow putrid intestines were half attatched to their bodies which were grey through the unholy powers that made hell a reality in its own right. They bore no arms but the mere sight of their basilisk eyes was quite sufficient to sicken even the would-be-heroes of highest resolve. Being used to these sort of encounters, I was fairly unaffected but I could see Lady cringe. She soon got over it however, she produced her handguns as did I. What they lacked in aesthetics, they also lacked in skills. Terror fed them but since we didn't yield to terror, they stood little chance, bullets tore through them. We drove our way into the middle of them where we could deal with twice as many just as quickly. After dealing with the horde, I approached the crystal and plunged rebellion into it with all of my strength. Energy burst from the crystal and envoloped itself within me. Sparda had returned.

Thanks, I will be writing more soon, this will be going on for some time.;)

Regular feedback would be greatly appreciated especially creative criticism. Praise is also always welcome  but let me know if you feel the pace is flagging or the story isn't descriptive enough etc.
many thanks.

Deity of the Old World
Chapter 7

I controlled Sparda through a telepathic connection that we shared my own body was now encased in ceramatine the same armour mundus was encased in, virtually impenetrable from the outside, I would be well protected.
Although I had control over the legendary dark knight, the time for jocundity was not now... Sparda met lady but by influencing the telepathic field on an ultra-conscious level I was able to talk through Sparda so Lady could recognise that it was me, or at least my will.
"So we can be off?" I asked.
"Almost" she replied.
"Huh?"
"Things have got a little bit different, whilst we were pilfering around here for your father's, now your power, the wyrm has destroyed the seventh seal. To exit we must go to the centre of the demon world and find the mass teleportation device there."
"Oh crap"
"Yeah"
"Well, best be off"
"Damn straight"

We headed off the cloister of candor awaited us. Needless to say we were stopped as my candor hadn't been to great to Sparda considering what I had just done. A small legion of skull-warriors advanced on us, bloodied, rusted halberds afront their ranks aiming to skewer us. We granted them no such pleasure. Instead they felt our bullet ballet. I ran up the wall and came down blasting their ranks as to get in the middle and thus use rebellion to take out more at a time. The frail army was shattered by the unrelenting force of the true form of Rebellion in Sparda's hands. Rebellion swung and spun and plunged, impaling, slicing limb from limb, eviscerating the small legion. Lady's jaw dropped to see how many I'd defeated, she had done a fair amount of fine shootery as well but I had more than twice her, well for the lack of a better word, score.

Deity of the Old World
Chapter 8

We passed a multitude of netherworld urchins of the streets. That would be if they could be called streets, closer to infinite facets of barren wasteland, scourged by the fire that burns to rip sins out of the souls of which the souls are born and thus the flame was endless as were the agonies of the sorrowed men and women crucified here in their turn to an eternal damnation of having their soul torn and burned for eternity whilst they are forced to endure the agonising rape of burning sulphur.

Though the flame had died down, the underworld still was motley with different scars which had been inflicted on it for the endurance of the flame which had been designed to burn a million luthrums over. Lady had seen enough. We moved onto the unholy sanctum, within lay the teleportation device we sought. I entered the door, it was of magnificent divine, architects of all ages had worked on this structure in the false hope of being released from Hell. It was a sturdy, wide door, made of ethereal stone as a sort of which I had never encountered, it shone a myriad golden through sapphire light amidst a deepening rich crimson which responded accordingly to the mystical rhythm of the plain's existence.

On the inside the structure was awe-inspiring, the proof of mans mastery of stone. The arches clad together in an inordinate but not inelegant array, afore leading to a spiral staircase. We went up the stairs and at the top I saw a wall, alas in this wall was a reflection most morbid. It showed the world fallen before a great and terrible beast, the civilians carcasses were mounded in a midden of more than preternatural morbidity whilst the few heroes had been flayed alive, their skin was then used as garments for the beast, who I assume was the wyrm.

When I had got over this we found the room of teleportation, alas before me came the fell axeman...
