But alot of that depends on how they decide to tackle Dante's role in the game and the game's place in the timeline etc.

Very much this. A lot of people say Lucia was tacked on, when really it was Dante who was. It feels like he was only there out of obligation.

I'd have Dante show up specifically to stop Argosax's return after being hired by Lucia, instead of just showing up for a story about Sparda, who Dante has never really cared about (which may be the reason this plot was implemented to begin with, since Dante only really spoke of Eva in 1).

Also, if Argosax was established as actually absorbing fallen demons instead of just mimicking them, they could use that to bring Vergil back. Or maybe Dante could find something of Vergil's in the demon world and have that be why he stays for a bit.
