It's about safeguarding people as well - when you run a community, you have a certain level of responsibility towards those people in it. They choose to be part of what you provide, therefore you ought to show something from your end and ensure they are protected against spam, phishing, malicious posts/links, spyware, viruses etc. I know we have some fairly strict rules here but we have them for a reason - to help keep the community as safe and enjoyable as possible for all who take part.

It's not very safe or sensible if everyone who has an internet connection can just drop by, send you a ton of phishing messages, post some porn on your profile and nab your contact details while they're at it to get to you via your email too. You have to have some restrictions and with those restrictions comes rules and guidelines that those running the community have to ensure are adhered to as much as possible.

Nothing is foolproof and nothing is 100% safe and secure, but if you're not going to at least try to look out for your members then you ought not to be given the responsibility of running a community in the first place.

As far as i know visitors can't post in the forum there. *I am not sure* ​

They can posts comments under the anonymous ID & flag images as well as vote images be deleted. ​

My suggestion there is that anonymous users only be allowed to view content only.​

Your suggestion is how things should be, I know when we had the gallery with VB there was an option to allow visitors to comment but as you have seen it would be silly to allow that.

Well many forums allow that function because they want their forums to appear more active, thus more popular, thus more inviting. The "anonymous" thing makes people more eager to post (foolishly, since it's not like we register under our real name or that they'll find us and kill us if we make a mistake or whatever) since they seem safer that no matter what they post, they'll not be banned or anything.

In a way I see where he's coming from, but on the other hand, all the negative aspects that were already pointed out are just too much trouble for such a small "reward". Using our way the posts might be less, but they're also less out of content, less insulting and less spam-like so I'd say it's quite the unfair bargain. Way more practical if you ask me.

I'm actually tempted to get one of those huge inflatable joke hammers you can get, write "banhammer" on the side and "GTFO" on the face - then when some illiterate cold caller comes to my door to sell me windows which I clearly already have, I can smash them over the head with the hammer and direct them towards said windows which proudly display a LARGE sign stating that we don't like uninvited traders, charities or religious pests. But then I guess I'd have to read it out to them seeing as they obviously couldn't read in the first place. Sigh...

Banhammer... real hammer they both get rid of irritating people but you can only get arrested for using one so would probably be wise to have one made for real life.

You can report double posts but they arent a huge deal, if its a triple or quadruple post then by all means but dont feel you have to report every double post.

Tell you that if you give me 2 marshmallows to begin with then I will let you keep the rest of the pack, saves wasting both our time.
