Aaaanyway, before this topic gets into the realm of who knows what...
The only way I could see Vergil testing Dante would be to see if he was worthy to rule humans with him, not to see if he could protect them. If Vergil wanted to rule the humans, he'd want to do it without Dante stopping him or getting in his way.
As for him going into hell, I think he'd do it to get Sparda's power, but not to knock up a demon chick.
