The Mad Man
Lots of people say that Vergil will stab Dante in the back because of his lust for power, which is a valid theory that I think has the greatest chance of happening.
But what if Dante betrays Vergil?
Granted, I'm not saying Dante will be evil. I'm saying that what if he finds out the true purpose of The Order, and decides to fight against it. This could also go into his character development, showing that he, now, truly cares for humanity.
I think it would be kind of cool to see Vergil try to convince Dante that they are superior beings, while Dante argues against it, similar to Magneto and Professor Xavier.
Feel free to discuss and speculate.

Perhaps dante leave vergil then vergil got all depressed then turns like what he is in the downfall. Sorta like Griffith.

pretty sure it'll go something like this

kat gets kidnapped
vergil either refuses outright to save her ("for the greater good of the order!") or he sends dante into a trap while trying to save her (also "for the greater good of the order!")
dante survives, obviously. Kat is either injured or dead.
dante swears revenge on vergil
"dante this is madness, you'd throw away everything the order worked for, for a girl??"
"blah blah your vision of the perfect world is crazy and/or not if this is the price we have to pay"

I'm pretty sure they teamed up in the end just like in the gamescom trailer so i don't think dante will swears revenge on vergil. On the contrary, it might be the opposite. Of course, before the betrayal thing will happen.

they might try and follow DMC3's plot then, and it would go something like this

vergil has a plan to fix the world. It's awful, dante disapproves.

second to last level: dante and vergil team up to fight mundus, because even though they disagree, they can agree that mundus surviving is by far the worst outcome
very last level: mundus is dead, vergil tries to carry out his awful plan, dante stops him

Then Dante defeated him(I really doubt this though), vergil goes into hell. Vergil goes mad and swears revenge on humanity and dante himself. He then goes through a journey for more POWAH!

Then where from there where would the story go? Would Dante have no choice but to kill him, probably. I feel Vergil wont but get possessed my Mundus during the game and have him fight Dante and lose.

Why does everyone assume that Vergil will be some mustache twirling villain? He doesn't have to be evil. He and Dante can simply have different points of views.

I think he really cares about the humans. His methods could just be less forgiving.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of Vergil betraying Dante or just being against Dante in general, that story has already been told in DMC 3. Let's see what story NT can give us about the boys.

Like, look. Don't you just get a nice feeling when You see the brothers just sort of hanging, planning, talking?

Honestly that makes the betrayal thing stronger. Because the stronger the bonds they share, the stronger the hatred too.

All I'm hoping is having one epic fight scene for Dante and Vergil, More epicer than one in DMC3.

lol. Yes, and they're just so cute together.

Serious now, I'd rather they not have Vergil betray Dante. Honestly, I'd like to see Vergil live, this time.

I gotta say, I'm gonna cry if Vergil and Dante fight.

I shed a tear when Dante and Vergil fought in DMC3, so since these two are spending more time and talking to each other, learning about each other, the betrayal will be that much more heart wrenching.

Damn, I'm in my feelings right now due to this song I'm listening to.

And this is what I'm talking about. That idea of building up the relationship can make betrayal all the more intriguing, and as DragonMaster puts it, "heartwrenching," when it happens.

Because Vergil and Dante are twins, maybe their abilities as Nephilim were split in the progress? Remember identical twins are formed when the egg divides into two seperate embryos. That happening could have effected who inherted which gifts from their parents. Say Dante can only do Devil Trigger, while Vergil can only do an Angelic Trigger. They'd be two halfs of the same person, but incomplete as Nephilim.

Perhaps that would be enough for Vergil to get power driven to betray Dante, if he felt that the only way he could rise to full power was if his brother's own existence was wiped clean and he took what powers he had, much like how Dante gains new gifts from fallen foes.

Notice as well in the opening sequence there is a lot of focus put on the fact that Dante is capable of healing himself. What if this is a trade Vergil doesn't have and wishes to possess, and reason that shot is given so much focus is because it'll come up as a plot-point later on?

Vergil could see Dante as nothing more than a tool to reach his goal, and once that tool's fulfilled it's purpose, he'll get rid of it and take what he believes was always meant to be rightfully his and make himself a full-fledge Nephilim, or attempt to that is.

Really though, Dante should've seen it coming.
