Why does a Devil Never Cry

In DMC a general tradition is to have a devil cry hence the title. Why is it in DmC nobody cries? You could easily make Dante cry when Kat gets catured or at the ending. It seems like to be a weird thing to leave out of the plot since it's still called Devil may cry and such.

I think Lilith gets close to it during the exchange. Am I right?

I would dare say, as mentioned above, that we have Lilith who is crying over the loss of her baby before being shot in the head. I might be wrong, but it does look like she gets teary eyed while looking down at her bloodied hands. And though he doesn't cry per se, Dante looks lost and in doubt at the ending when saying "I don't know who I am anymore." to Kat. Not to mention Vergil's "I loved you brother." sounded quite sad, as if he was on the verge of tears for the loss, not only of the trust of his brother, but also of everything he had fought for.

So no, there might not be a tear falling as such, but there were times that would suggest that there have been crying. Personally, I am glad they kept it subtle.

Same here. I couldn't stand Lilith having a cry-fest. Subtle is best. :P

I mean, before she even got out of the car, she looked like she was about to cry.

Well... She was a hostage. She had failed her kin and the father of her child. No matter what, then she was in trouble.
But yeah, the whole scene was kinda to show that the world wasn't all black and white. That though Lilith is a demon, she still had emotions and could suffer emotionally.

because they weren't going for anime melodrama

I think Dante was about to cry at the end of mission 12 when Dante and Vergil were on the roof. The way Dante's face looked was like a sad puppy dog.

Dante doesn't cry because he isn't a bitch. Like a real man. Like this ****.
Try telling that to a beefcake like Kenshiro.

Well, it's Devil May Cry, a devil doesn't have to cry. A devil may cry though. Let's see, I think Dante cried in DMC 1 and 3. Nero cried in 4. I don't know if anyone cried in 2. As for DmC, I'm going by what you guys said, Lilith was on the verge of tears and Vergil was really upset. Maybe Vergil will cry in Downfall.
