Although intrigued by the fact they were using unreal engine I was also dissapointed by the lack of 60 fps and felt bad for ps3 users do to ps3 bad port (which is wierd because on ps2 unreal 2/3 runs fine )
however some great games fast paced (30 fps) games use it

If ninja theory gets this right we could have a great game judging by the fact that the following used unreal
Deus ex series (except for Revolution)
Gears of war series
Mass effect series
Mirrors edge
Batman arkham city and arkham asylum

however note that these games are not in the same category as DmC
but what do you guys think

I know this engine so well, as I have almost everyone game what used It, even some first HP games ( yes firts Harry Potter games if you don't know used Unreal Engine too but limited in modding cause).

Unless I see a comparable game without a particular engine I am sadly unable to tell if there is any benefit to having it or not. But I'm guessing it's a good thing to have it...?

I think its not as good as the MT framework which could handle 60 frames per second.
thats was the engine for the DMC series.

It's a good engine with lots of possibilities and some good games were made using it. They keep updating it to become better and better and with great results.

I think its a pretty good engine, a lot of good games use it, some you've already listed. Its capable of providing amazing visuals when used right. But its usually the PS3 that gets the bad versions (hope it isn't like that in DmC). I don't know a hack an' slash game thats used it before DmC. I wonder why they don't use an updated version of the Heavenly Sword engine, that was a hack an' slash.

Edit: Wow, I didn't know Lollipop Chainsaw was using it!

I think its good for smooth graphics and gameplay.

But obviously to slow for your typical DMC game since it runs at 30fps.

Just my opinion.

Have you played the new Mortal Kombat? Or Mass Effect 2? Or seen trailers of the new TERA mmo? Their gameplay are not slow at all and the gameplay on the new Devil May Cry trailers doesn't look slow either. Frames per second isn't about speed, it's about how smooth it runs and even at 30fps, the games I mentioned look pretty smooth even at high speed action, imo.

Never said the gameplay was slow.

On the contrary it runs pretty descent.

Just to slow for a DMC game in my honest opinion.

Sure the new DMC game looks like it runs fast but compare that gameplay to DMC3 and DMC4 and the difference is obvious....at least to me.

The gameplay was slowed down since Devil May Cry 4 and that ran on the old engine. So I wouldn't blame the chosen engine for the slow gameplay, but those who made the gameplay. Capcom.

Than how would you stack up DMC4 and the new DmC game as far as speed?

And its obvious that the engine does play a part and the blame is not all on Capcom.

Its running at 30fps which does limit it from how fast if could run if it ran at 60fps.

No, they can still go equally as fast, but the 30fps engine would look less smooth than a 60fps engine, because they only have half the images to work with. If you try and videotape yourself with a camera who does 60fps and then does exactly the same but with a camera who does 30fps you will notice that there are no difference in speed, but the 60fps camera makes it look alot smoother, because it has the double count of images to work with than the 30fps camera. The 30fps camera will look more 'laggy', but the speed would remain the same.

O.K. This...

The engine is capable of far greater than current gen consoles will allow.

If one wants to create a story with so great and realisitcal graphic - then why not just go into movie production?
If you want to make a game - then gameplay is important.

I think they can really pull out something good out of this engine. The gameplay(Beth/Kat/Pat one, the one without the JaPANESE commentary) looked pretty smooth to me. No framerate drops at all. However, the other gameplay, the one which consisted of that 'hanging level' (again without those Japanese commentators) saw a couple of framerate drops which, I think, would be sorted out before the release. So, in a nutshell, I have no problem with this engine.

Games today are more than just gameplay. Stories in games are made to make games alot more interesting and fun to play, making us gamers feel like we are a part of something bigger than just sitting and pushing some buttons. It gives pushing those buttons some meaning. The graphics are becoming more and more realistic to show the world what they are able to do and how far they are able to push with the graphic engines and the consoles.
If you only care about gameplay then why even bother making the game look pretty? Then Dante would just be called Red Block number 1 and go around hitting things with Weapon Block number 1 at the many Green Demon Blocks and the whole game would just consist of blocks hitting eachother.
