Vergil doesnt care about his family?

That is a possibility. It is equally possible that the amulet DmC Dante is wearing has no relevance to this story and just looks like the Perfect Amulet as a minor reference to the original series. (Magical amulets don't really seem to fit the type of story NT is trying to do.)

The thought of magical amulets fits fine into the but the purpose of them wouldnt be the same. They were used to open up a portal to the demon would but thats not needed anymore since demons already have control of the real world. The other use was to unlock the power of the force edge and change it into the sparda and the sword may not exist in this world it doesnt seem like sparda sealed anything away so his power wouldnt be sealed either. A way it could be used in the world of DmC is that it keeps Dantes and Virgils powers in check as a sort of limiter.
