Texture Mods: Red Gloves and Bald Dante

Haha, well for anyone who wants to mod the PC textures I've found this out:

You can extract the UPK files using tools people created for X-Com, only trouble is the textures are in .TFC format and they aren't able to be read, I found a tool that reads them and converts to and from PNG but it's 50/50 on whether they work or not when replaced. The models for characters also seem to be in there but as I'm not clever enough when it comes to modelling I'm not sure if the models are rigged or if it's separate so someone else can check that out.

The Red Glove replacement was done by replacing the actual texture in the UPK folder but that's all I've gotten to work so far with that method, if you'd like to edit the textures easily then use a program called TexMod, but be warned you have to start the game through TexMod each time.

I've also found out the clothing is done in layers, for example Dante isn't just a model + skin texture he is divided up into Boots, Coat, Hood, Top/Gloves, Trousers, Hair, Face, Eyes, Devil Trigger Face, them the UK flag, red near his hands and pendant seem to be separate as well. So until someone figures out how to make the .TFC files work 100% TexMod seems to be the only valid way of editing the textures for now. So I hope this helps anyone out.

I'd actually like to see a 2010 Dante, essentially taking the "Standard" White Hair Dante with the longer hair from the end of the game and just making it black. And maybe seeing if there's a way to shorten his jacket a little bit.

Still wish there was a hooded version, too :( And a DMC1 skin :/

Well you're in luck.

His hair is actually separate from his skull and changing the transparency gives you that "bald" dante look. Also I'm pretty sure if you edited his coat texture in Photoshop and erased a lot of the bottom you could make a short jacket. From what I've been messing with a lot of stuff is plausible but I'm not great when it comes to texture edits and stuff. I just like to mess and find stuff out. :P

I really dig that Danteworth Miller mod. Can you take a picture of that with the SoS costume? Although it's probably impossible for someone to have already unlocked it on the PC version...

Haven't unlocked it yet, everytime I go to play the actual game someone calls me to help them with something... But once someone is able to create a working extractor/repacker I'm sure we'll see all kinds of mods.

Also, if anyone is good with model editing/replacement download the tools to mod X-Com UPK files and try it out? It could just be the TFC editor I was using which would mean we might be able to replace weapons.

How I'd love to see a mod that makes default Dante look like his beta design from the concept arts. Shouldn't be too complicated: switch hair to white, jacket to red, shirt to black and pants to black.

This pretty much proves that this game's textures can be modded, and you know what that means everybody, don't you? Free costume packs!

Gotta love the good ol' PC.

I actually done most of that, although I haven't been able to find his jacket yet. It seems it's like 3 different layers.

Since I'm new'ish here who would I have to talk to about getting a subforum for modding? There's a few people I've been talking with who have started working on some stuff but they have no real place to post it or anything they find for other modders.

I'd assume that you'd have to propose the idea directly to a mod or the forum's admin.

You can try posting at the general gaming discussion sub forum.
