Do you think Kat was intended to be Dante's love interest?

Unlike most people I don't think Kat was intended to be Dante's love interest in DmC. Mostly because they never engage in any kind of action that could be considered intimate or alludes to a romantic relationship(no sex, no making out, no kissing, no hugging, and no hand holding). The only physical contact they have with each other is when Dante squats awkwardly close to her while she makes the plan to infiltrate Mundus's lair and at the end of the game where Kat is holding Dante's face. Personally I think she was there to support Dante emotionally so he doesn't become a complete mental wreck and to show that he can actually talk to people normally and be respectful and nice, instead of just being cocky, full of himself, and acting like a smart-ass(aka like Classic Dante) all the time.

But I know there are several people who disagree with me on this and I would like to here the reasons why. SO vote on the poll and give the reasons for decision, if you all would be so kind.

one reason to say yes is because the plot was already standardized enough and having that NOT happen would thus be in an insane plot twist.

The only official pair in DMC universe is NeroxKyrie. I wouldn't say even DanteXTrish is canon though they shared moments in DMC 1. Actually, Dante isn't romantic character in any way. So don't think there were any love interest in the past or in future. Hell, Dante shared a moment with lady in DMC 3 where he almost kissed her.

But pairings are debatable in resident evil universe. Many vouch for chrisXjill, LeonXclaire but isn't confirmed as official even though the chemistry is so obvious. But i prefer characters with a future than fall into single dimension of romance.

It was explicitly stated early on in the game's development that Kat was not intended nor developed to be a love interest for Dante. So, no

I ship them to the moon and back, but, I'm not blind. Dante and Kat are just friends, and if you think about it, Vergil was the brother Dante never knew he had and Kat becomes the little sister to him in their group. I think that's how it'll always be played, them looking out for each other and being good friends.

Still...

Like Aoshi said there aren't romantic pairings in the series beyond Kyrie/Nero and Sparda/Eva and Dante/Trish are not more canon than Dante/Lady or Dante/Lucia since they shared they're romantic moments too. The best we get is shiptease. And Kamiya solved that question long ago.
Kat really loves him but as his friend/comrade, but I'm a little suspicious Dante maybe like her in a different way, but this is just an opinion.

i think early on, she was intended to become the love interest, but as time went on, they just kinda said "**** this, lets not make it TOO predictable" and they will just be really close friends

Dante and Kat were just very close. Kat opened Dante up to the world and gave him a reason to live and trust people again. They went through a lot together, but to make them romantic would cheapen the strong bond that they made during the struggles of the game.

So very much this. This is something learned very early on when you get serious about writing, and it's a pitfall that Hollywood has made quite huge, which many fall into. There's just this silly instinct to pair men and women up. It's like romantic OCD >.< "THERE MUST BE COUPLES! TWO BY TWO! HHHRRRNNNNNGGG!"

A lot of really great character chemistry falls flat when they try to shoehorn in romantic subplots, or just suddenly have characters wanting to bone each other for no reason.

The only thing that's applicable is attempting a romantic relationship, simply because they've gone through so much together. However, relationships built on foundations like that rarely survive, simply because it's not exactly love that brought them together, but a circumstance that forced them together.
