So I'm sure other people have made similar threads (I'm pretty sure I have), but I hope to be a little original (As in, I'm hoping nobody has done this) and I'm asking everyone to assign each DMC game a Style Rank. I mean hey, these games grade us, so why don't we do the same? Pretty basic, go in release order, assign each game a grade of D-S, and if you want, say a bit about what you liked and disliked about each game.
Oh, and so nobody can get in-trouble for it *SPOILER WARNINGS FOR DMC5!!!!* Just in-case you didn't see it in the thread's title.
Rank S: What can I say? The one that started it all. Some people try to say DMC1 hasn't aged well, and to those people, I say "........Have you played the original God of War? cause that game came out the same year as DMC3, and honestly DMC1 is Michelle Pfeiffer by comparison" (Side note* Anyone believe Michelle Pfeiffer is 60 years old? Whoa). DMC1 stated the series, it started the hack n' slash action that brought other greats like God of War and Bayonetta among others, and for me, DMC1 has the appeal of one of those older games you play just for the retro feel. That and I love the dark atmosphere and the creepy castle.
Devil May Cry 3
Rank S: Devil May Cry 3, my introduction game to the series. Introduced the style system, had some of the best weapons and bosses of the series. Not a lot I can knock this one for.....except being complete and total hell for a newbie!! But oh, did that make it oh so satisfying when I cleared it for the first time. Also loved how the Special Edition added Vergil as a playable character.
Definitive Edition Rank A: 60 FPS, fully rendered cutscenes and much more fluid movements, added the lock-on back, increased the difficulty, kept the color coded enemies but did them in such-a-way that was less annoying (just do less damage and enemies won't react to getting hit, instead of getting you knocked back) I will give them points but it's still a lot that should have been in the base game.
Devil May Cry 5
Rank S: DMC5 is the game DMC4 should have been. 3 playable characters, each with their own boss fights (Only recurring boss fights being Urizen and Vergil. In Urizen's case, it was more to show how screwed the characters are. He kicks Dante's ass, he kick's Nero's ass twice, then Dante finally gets to do some damage, then finally beats him. Vergil? Well Mission 19 was the true final boss, mission 20 was more like a victory lap for story purposes) as-well as taking some aspects from DmC. DMC5's got epic boss fights, awesome weapons, as well as great OST.
So that's mine, your's?

Devil May Cry 2
Rank D: I don't think this need to go too in-depth. It's no secret that most people consider this the worst DMC game (myself definitely included) the only things I remotely like about it are Dante's design and the Majin Devil Trigger. The bosses are lame, the combat is dull, and I don't know why I only noticed this last time, it has an auto lock-on for melee attacks, which is beyond annoying.
Devil May Cry 3
Devil May Cry 4
Rank A: DMC4 added Nero, gave Dante the ability to change styles on the fly, has boss fights on par with DMC3's (most of them, more on that latter), weapons almost as good as DMC3's, and with the special edition adding Vergil, Lady, and Trish, has the most playable characters of any DMC game. But it losses points for all the back-tracking. Dante's missions (save fighting the Savior) are just back-tracking the first half of the game, and Sanctus, is probably one of the weakest final bosses of the series. Still, for a game that was released half done, it was pretty good.
DmC
This one's a little more complicated, I actually have two rankings, for the original and Definitive Edition. Yes DMC3 and DMC4 each had a Special Edition. But for me at-least, nothing significant enough to change the rating(original or Special Edition, DMC3 gets an S and DMC4 gets an A in my book). DmCs Definitive Edition on the other hand, actually did fix some problems with the original game.
Original Rank C: First of all, some interesting concepts, demons trying to influence us for a parallel dimension. Though the character designs aren't my favorites, I do like how they at-least look more realistic. Also, it has some cool weapons. But, the game was hella easy, with choppy attack animations, taking away the lock-on, not fully rendered cutscenes, and those annoying color coded enemies .This one's a little more complicated, I actually have two rankings, for the original and Definitive Edition.
