Everything I've heard has him as a teenager, at just a bit younger than DMC3's Dante.
That's what I've been hearing on him being mid 20's too. darn, we need to find some confirmation somewhere. Anybody know?

Ask Tam Tam, maybe? He's the definitive source, but he's really spotty on answer tweets, though. He is not a tweeter.

I dont' tweet much, but i'll give it a shot.

Edit:
I just click on the 'to tweet' option, right? o__o

I'm inclined to think that this story actually takes place before the events of DmC. Vergils downfall may be the reason He goes into hiding and forms The Order, as means of still hurting the demons, but all the while regaining his strength. Attempting to take on the full might of Mundus himself proved too challenging, hence seeking out his brother, Dante, for assistance.

I feel like I've asked Tameem about Dante's age before and he replied early twenties.
-"Can you clear something up for some DmC fans? How old is Dante during the events of the game? I heard it was 16 or 17."
-"We don't specify an age. That's too young though."
I will go with the twenties. , seriously, 16 is too young for a demon killer.

Dante slugged Vergil in the face during their fight.

It was glorious. (Then he apologized and ruined it)

^Hahaha, I called it.
And guess what? Back then I made a topic saying that it would be pretty cool if Vergil was a playable character, The next day, Vergil's Downfall trailer came out.

I wonder if this is the story where Vergil got attacked by Mundus and lost his adoptive parents or the aftermath of DmC.
But yeah, if there is a character that will puch Vergil in the face then there is only one character and it's too obvious because he has the guts to punch his brother.

There's a picture in DMC4 with DT Vergil holding his o-katana -- it had DT Dante in the reflection. If you look at the picture, you'll see that Vergil's left eye is missing. It's scarred over and closed up. I think that scar is a reference to that.

And people say NT aren't true fans... who else would put in that little detail for the hardcore?

Good call. I wanted to play as him as well. And nice topic, btw. ^_^
