The Court of the Crimson King
I decided that given the surge in interest and the scattered information for the recent announcement of "Silent Hill f", it would warrant its own thread rather than necro-ing the old general SH one from 2+ years ago.

As per the official website, the plot is as follows:

In 1960s Japan, teenager Shimizu Hinako lives in the small, remote town of Ebisugaoka, nestled in a mountain pass.
An average teen, she passes the time with nothing particularly special about her life.

Until, that is, a deep fog descends on Ebisugaoka, and everything Hinako knows crumbles as she finds her once-familiar home infested with spreading danger, the town empty except for the horrors teeming in the fog.

Now, as she navigates the twisting paths of Ebisugaoka, Hinako must solve puzzles and fight for her life in her struggle to survive.

Her struggle to reach the inevitable decision that must be made.
And her struggle to put an end to that which must be slain.

Will she choose to embrace elegance and beauty?
Or will her path lead her to madness and horror...

A story of impossible decisions, of the beauty in terror, and terror from beauty.

As you can see, its quite a departure from the typical bread and butter of the franchise, which ties into Konami's statement that the series had lost its way and they are trying to bring it back to its J-Horror roots. Also of interest is its apparently already been rated in certain countries which hopefully suggests that the game isn't too far out from release.

So what are everyone else's thoughts? Does this game look like something that interests you, or are you holding out for a more traditional title/remake of SH 1, 3 or 4?

While I don't wish to discredit the talented producers, I did get the impression they were constantly acting like this IS a Silent Hill game, when to me, it is really NOT a proper entry in the series by any considerable means.

For a start, I know certain games during and after the Team Silent era had you exploring other places, but this just doesn't seem very logical to me, since the titular Silent Hill is meant to be close to Maine where the novelist Stephen King lives, or at least set in a New England venue. It's a fictional town in the US somewhere anyway. But now they can put a supernatural essence elsewhere, but retain the name for to have a subtle link. So is Silent Hill a 'thing' now rather than a place?

How confusing.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the SHP ("Silent Hill Phenomenon") being the in-world reason as to why any place/person can now experience the Fog World/Otherworld.

I'm not sure if the devs have explained it deeper, but on the surface, it just seems anyone who has some sort of trauma can experience the Fog World and it has nothing to do with Silent Hill. This breaks lore of the original 4 games, where I believe it says the Fog World/Otherworld is directly related to the cult and happenings in Silent Hill. And you can easily theorize that the non-Silent Hill town parts of SH3 and all of SH4 are still subject to the Otherworld due to characters being related to Silent Hill, so the Otherworld follows them.

But now the fog is just an effect of anyone with trauma? Seems like a lazy way for them to expand the franchise. I hope they can still tie f to the town of Silent Hill somehow. I don't mind other locations, really. SH2 was too big for its own good. It was the only SH of the original 4 to even feature an MC going through trauma and that just caught on as the main aspect of the series.

Isn't there a liquid called White Claudia or something, in either SH1 or 2? So maybe this comes from Japanese flowers, and it seems like the enemies in this game are vegetative, which you can see on top of their heads. There was also a stalker threat in the last game called "Sakura Head" that was covered in cherry blossom petals.

I'm pretty sure that Dusk Golem said the games are supposed to share a bit of a connection, but not just because the main protagonist is from Japan. And f predates the other games due to being set in the 1960s. So perhaps all this, "This is a fake SH game because of (insert moaning statement)" hooey may be premature.

The plot of SH1 took place in the 70s or the 80s, I believe.
