Should ESRB ratings be updated?

My mom would always turn the blood off when I played Mortal Kombat Trilogy as a kid.

I would always go back into the options and turn it back on. XD

I'm not talking about messing with the game settings. I mean Parental Controls with passwords.

Then they should suck it up. Or lose their console. That's the choice my kids are given - live with the compromise or go without.
