The last time elemental properties is implemented into the series' gameplay was in DMC3, where you find weapons of multiple elements which could either increase damage against certain enemies or be bad at combos with others.

In DMC4, they kinda abolished elements and if they're there, it's just for show.
Nero's Exceed system spews flames but they don't seem to be weak when used against Berial.
Dante's "gauntlet" typed weapons were fire and light elemental before but Gilgamesh in DMC4 was element-less.

What do you think?

I think it's a double edged sword.

In the sense that having a weapon too powerful against a certain enemy could reduce combo potential cause they'd die too quickly.

On the other hand, having elemental properties would add an extra degree of depth and strategy.

But overall I'd say yeah elementals should be brought back. Together with bludgeon/cutting properties (for example in DMC3 chess pieces were more vulnerable to bludgeon weapon such as Beowulf or Cerberus).

There's an ice-free DMC3 run if you wanna watch it -- maybe that'll help with your decision.
