Dante should go to the creator
I don't like ninja theories .... should i call him Dante Pattinson or Dante Cullen

Hideki Kamiya created Dante but I really love how Dante is portrayed in DMC 3 and 4. (Which I'm sure we all know were directed by a different dude, Hideaki Itsuno)

I would say Kamiya should definitely be the one to own the rights to Dante but as long as he makes sure that he has his DMC 3/4 attitude.

I would love it if Kamiya got the rights back to Dante.

I've said it before that I would love for Platinum Games to be the ones handling DMC5 or even this "reboot".

But the fact is that Capcom has the rights to the series.

They can do whatever they want to it.

Does not mean you have to set back and accept it.....but there isn't anything that we can do about it either.

Gaming industry needs to change. And it´s more right that a creator keeps his character than some people who has papers on it.

I wonder what Hideki Kamiya got out of DMC? And why Capcom managed to get the rights?

Ok I voted for the creator thinking that you meant the creator of the game and not the creator of Dante himself. But I reread the poll and I noticed the other choice was the people with the rights (not just 'the people'). Well I actually believe the people with the rights should be in charge. Because there is no 'truth' to me. There's no 'he created it so he should be in charge!' In that case I doubt that DMC's 3 or 4 would've been created (I think the original creator would've done 2, right?) No, no that's all overly sentimental to me.
You see, I believe that the person with the rights, the person with the papers approved by the OWNERS--no, I do not mean creator, but owners--should be the ones in charge. Because without these other people taking charge, where will creativity be? Are we gonna shell out the same old DMC after DMC because the original creator wants to? Hell no! I'd rather get a fresh new mind.
So if you don't like it, that's really to bad (to be frank, of course). The law beats sentimentalism and partiality. So I'm taking the law's side and I'm going to say it's the guy with the paper who wins it all. If the original creator doesn't have the rights, well that was too bad for him/her.

Again, I pressed the wrong one xD So if you're counting this down, choose one for the first choice.

Hideki made Dante as creator. It´s his creation, he should be at least entitled to that. And DMC 2- 4 Hideki was not involved.
And DMC 1 was pretty much the best story of them all. It made the foundation for the story of Sparda, Dante etc.

Yes, but that's just his reputation. Look, you're giving him a good reputation right now. And he deserves it. Afterall, he started probably one of the best video game series' on this earth! But why didn't he take another contract? Now, I don't know much about the real life history of DMC so if Capcom just didn't let him, I understand. But he isn't the man with the papers. He isn't the man at the controls right now. In fact, from what I've read on his Twitter, he doesn't care. So really, the fact he was the creator and that DMC was his creation is just a reputation, not a right to keep making the games.

I think rights ought to stay with the creator.

Gaming industry needs to change. And it´s more right that a creator keeps his character than some people who has papers on it.

And here's where it gets tricky. The gaming industry isn't the only industry that "needs to change" if the rights always stay with the actual creator. Anyone, company or otherwise, that employs any person in any creative capacity needs to change.

Corporations like Capcom or WMG get to keep the rights because they either a) buy them from the creator, which happens for most music and movie scripts or b) the creator was hired to create something. Kamiya happens to belong to category b in the case of Dante. Kamiya got a salary and probably some royalties and bonus money out of DMC. In fact, I'm damn sure he was very well paid for his trouble. He'll be crying into his pile of money for a while over DMC.

I think copyright law needs an overhaul, personally. But even he did own the rights to the Dante concept, what would Kamiya do with them? I guess he could go to some other company and hope they make a game the way he wants it made, which might happen, but probably wouldn't. Or he could just make sure no one else makes a game, also a stellar option.

Its because he made it while working for capcom
So? Can't he work with Capcom again? I'm asking out of ignorance just so you know. I have no clue what's going on in the real world of DMC. All's I know is from DMC 2 till now. What happened around DMC 1 is beyond me.

I don´t know how much of DMC 1 is Hidekis work. But i know this much - he is called the creator so it must be alot. And with that said Vezild has someone ruined your work like this case with Dante?

Have you created a character only to see it be ruined by someone else and u had no rights to complain? Yes/No please.

Thanks for explaining things for us that didn´t know what you said. Knowing that Hideki was paid to create something i guess its then Capcoms property.

That changes my perspective on many matters O.o

I've created something only to have it destroyed by some one else and I had no right to comment. You move on.

Really, my thing is change is good, especially when there's really no reason to hate it. Now, I'm not talking specifically about DmC because I know some of you have some reasons to dislike it. But I mean, really. If Kamiya held on to the rights, DMC would eventually be to the same state it is now. Dying, going to oblivion, and getting a chance--just a chance--to come back up with something radically new. I want to play more Devil May Cry. And if Kamiya doesn't want to work, well, somebody else will do it.

And how is that fair?

Virago corrected me that Hideki was paid to create Dante for Capcom - so that justifies Capcom. But to reply to your comment:
Hideki made Bayonetta and added DMC elements. And it got 9.0 rating and many people love it.
Shows that DMC wouldnt be the same after DMC 1 if Hideki had the rights.
