Reasoning behind the name?

Does anyone remember if there was a reason given as to why they named it DmC: Devil May Cry instead of giving it a subtitle or just naming it Devil May Cry? :)

I suppose it was for lack of a better word, but none of the other Devil May Cry games have been called anything other than Devil May Cry *Insert Number here. With the exception of DMC3 Dante's Awakening.

Yeah, I think they simply did not want to just call it Devil May Cry as it would confuse some people (Like Tomb Raider and Mortal Kombat did). But why the little middle m? Just to look different? I really don't know, but it sure helps alot when talking about DmC and the original series, DMC. That little m is a nice way to differentiate the two titles from one another. ^^

Since it isn't a direct sequel they didn't add a number to it so the the name DmC: Devil May Cry is a way to show exactly what it is. The newest addition to the franchise while being a fresh start for the series. Makes it less confusing since there is no subtitle to it.

Oh! Oooooooh I know I know I know why <3
It was mentioned in an interview with M!GAMES and I translated that bit a while ago, I'll just copy it for you guys~

Interviewer: “The name “DmC: Devil May Cry” is redundant. Why did you choose that title?”
Eshiro: (laughs) “You are definitely not the first one to ask us that question. But of course there is a back-story to this title. Eventhough you guys in the West abbreviate “Devil May Cry” as “DmC” - but it is not done in Japan. Not even a Japanese “Devil May Cry”-hardcore gamer thinks of the game when hearing the initials “DmC”, since there are other brands in popculture that are already using that abreviation. Internally at Capcom, we called the new episode just this: “DmC”. And when we looked at some logo designs for it, we liked those very much: The lowercase “m” represents the chaos-factor of the world and the graffiti appearence symolizes Dante’s rebellious and anachic character. So for us, “DmC” is the symbolic title of the game and “Devil May Cry” the explaing subtitle for it, so to say. Knowing this, the admittedly bulky (?) sounding title makes more sense hopefully.”

Well then, here you go <3
I guess that's the most official reason you can get :P
