Devil May Cry's a Rockin Baby!
It's strange, even though games with trophies don't work Bioshock 2 is working perfectly for me o_O.

Lots of people are having this problem, Sony are working on the issue apparently. Im guessing an update will be released to rectify the problem, though in the meantime i did see this amusing video on CVG site about it.

 Awesome Vid

CVG have posted Sonys advice though to say its less than helpful would be an understatement.

Sony said:
If you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.'

The full statement reads:

As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:
* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
* When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; "An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)".
* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; "Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game."
* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; "The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)"
* Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, Please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologise for any inconvenience caused.

What about using it offline? or would that make matters worse?

Suggested my friend tries this after he sent me a message asking about this issue 30mins ago. I will see what happens with his and report back if he lets me know as it cant update anything that way so in theory shouldnt be an issue.

AH! Not only five minutes ago I tried to play Modern Warfare 2 only to be met with this error! I also just read about it on sony's website. I hope it's fixed soon. As for me, I'm playing it safe and not using it at all. I even left a note to remind everyone else *cough* my sister *cough*

At times like these i feel happy that i ain't having a PS3. :D

If you think about it this is the first problem since the system came out. I'd say that's pretty good. :p

Fix was sorted last night and it was down to the old 'fat' PS3's recognizing the year 2010 as a leap year.

Sony said:
We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year.

Having the internal clock date change from 29 February to 1 March (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.

OPM Editor Tim Clark's tried it last night and posted the following on his Twitter page:

Tim Clark said:
Okay, booted up my fat 60GB and it worked fine. Signed in to PSN. Played FIFA a bit. Reset clock using internet. And relax...

Kind of sad to think this whole thing was caused by the PS3 not knowing what day it is. I hardly ever know and I get through life just fine.
