Have to agree. I like that the relationship Dante has with Kat. It's about building trust and not feeling alone. If it had romance suddenly, it just wouldn't be right.
Even though I ship those two
hardcore, I agree, I'd prefer they didn't hook up at the end. It's been done way too many times. That's what I liked about Enslaved, you have this chemistry between these two characters to a point that they built an understanding towards each other. It never reached a romantic level, it didn't need to. Sometimes just being subtle with things like that is better than any romance. Besides, love doesn't always bloom overnight, things like that take time.
For someone like Dante who's only really seen women for entertainment, forming a friendship with Kat would be real growth in his character, because she might be the first real friend that he's had to care about, and with the opposite sex too. He can't interacted her as he did with angel dancers
(where he and those ladies only had one motive in mind) so it would be a little learning curve for him in that sense. For example, if Dante's had guys for friends in the past
(mention of a gang from Bob, remember) he'd of probably acted tough around them, joked around and everything that comes with that. So with Kat he might behave a little differently, both from when hanging out with the boys, and from lady company
(he'd still flirt with her though  we know that from the 'liking it rough' statement.)
But it's like you said, it's a relationship built on trust. By what little snippets we've seen it implies Kat's had some bad history with demons too, like Dante. Maybe not the same, but perhaps they'll relate and form an understanding. If Kat lives, you could definitely see them looking out for each other after DmC like brother and sister. They could become like family.
...Someone tell me, how on earth did a Squirrel Spunk thread turn into a relationship debate!?
