Other Reboots/Ideas

DmC wasn't really the first (or even 10th) on my list of game franchises that I thought needed a reboot. There are plenty of others that could use a face lift/resurrection/re-imagining. What are some ideas people have for franchises to be re-started and how?

Final Fantasy, I think square would do well to let another developer take a stab at the game series and sort of let them have free reign like Capcom allowed for NT
Legend of Zelda, fans have basically been playing prettier versions of Ocarina of Time for like 15 years. I would love Nintendo if they ditched all the lore and tradition and really did something new with the series for once.

I hope that that would mean 'make new FFs', not 'take existing FFs and change them a lot'.

If you think that the backlash against DmC was bad, you have not seen enraged FFVII-fanboys. D:

I'd have to agree on Zelda needing some rejuvenation. I honestly loved Skyward sword and all the new and impressive things they did with it (it did add a lot to the game to actually control the sword accurately, too). But there really isn't any idea that could fit into their current timeline and surprise anyone, it seems.

A futuristic Zelda might be fun, but it seems they are already working on the Wii U Zelda and they've mentioned they're abandoning some concepts that are staples of the previous games. Hopefully it's a big step, not just a few gimmicks.

Final Fantasy could use a reboot, too, but I should note that every Final Fantasy is a reboot, essentially.

Why can't we left final fantasy die? Each game for the most was its own game. And thats not even going into the Crystal Chronicle and Tactics series. The series was and still is fantastic but why not move on? I would say reboot Clock tower but their already doing that ^-^ well at least some very talented fans are.

Yeah I can agree that every final fantasy does bring new stuff to the table but I would really love to just see it taken in a direction that is different from every other japanese made rpg game. Not to **** on jrpg's or anything I do love them but at this point 90% of them are exactly the same in terms of setting and tone and story thematic. I am just craving something new and different. Also not saying make it Skyrim just something unexpected and cool

I am very pleased to see Nintendo doing something new with Zelda, a futuristic Link could be awesome. We will see if it's a true evolution though, this is the same developer who waited 7 years to truly embrace online gaming

Reboot Kingdom Hearts. Just for the hell of it.:troll: but only after KH3 comes out.

Also I'd like to see a remake of onimusha.

Reboot Bloody Roar! If not... on NT, then give Konami a chance to fix it now that Hudson is gone.

I want more Legacy of Kain games. There was never a conculsion after Defiance. So I guess the best thing to do would be reboot, especially after all that time travel/ paradox stuff. It got too convoluted for me.

Okay how about...
- Bloody Roar
- Altered Beast (unlike the cancelled one)
- Brutal: Paws of Fury

reboot jack and daxter
It's "Jak & Daxter", heathen. :D As much as I like the series, I think they should either remake it or retcon it like DC did with pretty much all its characters. Infinite Crisis or whatever? Not a comic guy, so if anyone could clarify, that'd be nice. Why, well as much as the story sort of makes sense, and that Jak 3 ended at a cliffhanger, the Lost Frontier pretty much killed what the series could have been for most people. I haven't played it, but it doesn't look like it expands on what Jak 3 did. Hey, I know, maybe Sanzaru could do it. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time looks great and looks very true to the Sly Cooper franchise, but the gimmick with costumes/armor might hinder it. Still, they could continue two great franchises from the PS2, but I don't want them to be the studio who only continues games and doesn't make any new IPs besides the ones before Sly 4 and the HD collection.

Y'know what they should reboot? They should reboot DmC. :P Make it so it's "dmc: DmC: Devil May Cry"; yeah, that'll learn Square Enix. Capcom's got better (poor) naming. Kidding, by the way.

Ninja Gaiden could go for a reboot. Story wasn't a strong point and with NG3, it's pretty much on the ledge of "Great, we screwed up." Gameplay went from great to good to mechanics killing it. NG to me was a hack n' slash game with a 3D fighting game system, similar to Dead or Alive (obviously because Itagaki was behind both DOA and NG), Soul Calibur, Tekken, etc. DMC/DmC is more in line as a hack n' slash with a 2D fighting system. God of War . . . I have no idea what the system could have been inspired from or based on beside other hack n' slash games.

Soul Reaver could go for a reboot too. For a game from the PS2/GC/XBOX era, it had amazing voice acting and the story is pretty interesting.

Also, sequel to Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicles as it was known is some regions, or reboot the franchise.

You know Dark Cloud would be a good candidate for a reboot. I dont think NG needs a reboot, just a better sequel than the crap NG3. It's funny, I thought Itagaki leaving would not really matter much but you can actually tell a difference lol.

Final Fantasy

Let them finish Versus XIII first. Also something like final fantasy doesn't need a reboot in my opinion.

There is a rumored Soul Reaver Reboot. Hope it happens.

How about a reboot of Parasite Eve?
Oh god this. I would be happy to see Aya brea in the next generation consoles.

Let me be an ass for a while. FOR god sakes there is a section for this kind of threads!

I loved Dark Cloud 2, but I hated Dark Cloud 1. Why? Because of the difficulty and combat. I hated the durability bar in Dark Cloud 1 and at the time, I was young by the way, I didn't understand the game and I went through the game with a +99, or whatever the leveling system, Sax. First tier weapon, low damage and only leveled weapon I had versus the final boss. It was impossible for me. Dark Cloud 2 was more forgiving and personally it expanded on, improved on, and streamlined everything from Dark Cloud 1. It's one of my favorite games, but it's also one of the games I have never completed on. Restarted the game about 5-7 times because I either screwed up something or got way too far into the game and left so I couldn't remember what the hell is going on. The furthest I got in the game was the end of the volcano place.

Tomonobu Itagaki while being very blunt with his ideas and opinions, very strict with his standings, and coming off as an ass at times, is a good designer in my book. He's honest about his beliefs even when it hurts and offends others. But he makes up for designing great games. The only problem with that is his inflexibility doesn't go well with how technology, gaming, and businesses in general. Glad to see that his past work, such as Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, were somehow convinced by his staff to be ported over to the PS3. And I'm glad that his current project, Devil's Third will be multiplatform, PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. I respect Itagaki overall though.

His team for me seems like what happened over at Konami with Hideo Kojima. Both Itagaki and Kojima were more like parents to their teams, telling them what to do, what not to do, etc. While that can be good for productivity and getting good products out, it just hurts the teams overall when they're allowed to do whatever. Luckily Kojima didn't leave, he took a back seat. Unfortunately, Itagaki left and his team has no one to look back to. That's how I see their situations with Ninja Gaiden 3 and Metal Gear: Rising becoming Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. And luckily for Kojima's team, they were able to get Platinum Games to pick up the scraps and piece it all together. Hopefully this is a learning experience cause when Kojima's gone like Itagaki, they're going to be on their own. And a Metal Gear reboot would create more outrage the DmC's.

Oh yeah Trust me I know, metal gear fans would riot lol. And I agree with you 100% on dark cloud, it was a nice idea but very poorly executed. I think the only reason it sold well and got that amazing sequel was because it was a launch title. Thankfully, now we have Level 5 still around making great games
