Oh god, I played a game like that! It was a SHMUP where one player is on top, the other is on the bottom. When one collects a certain amount of power ups, they'd turn into a boss that the player could then control in order to try and destroy the other player. It was freaking awesome.

Yes. Can be either horizontal or vertical. The game I was talking about, where you could play as bosses in a duel against another player, is of the vertical variety. Like Ikaruga.

What if they do what ninja gaiden did and have a make your own Devil hunter just for the sake of not looking like whoever you playing with. Also it could be its own mode with no connection to the main story since he is a Devil hunter these could be other jobs he does on the side. The gameplay aspect of being online could be interesting if they tune the ranking system to how well the players work together to form combos and possibly moves that can only be used online with another player like a both player doing a charge shot that combines to make a stronger shot or both players grabbing the same enemy and ripping it apart. As for rewards for doing these mission standard orbs along with special online only orbs that can be used to purchase new combination techs and possible extra weapons not part of the main game or just different skins for existing weapons.

I'll only ever play a game with one other person, if that. A split screen into two, or nothing at all. XD

Chocolatepanda has the right idea for DmC multiplayer. The coop in NG and DI are so much fun with tons of eye candy. DmC should also have ways to share combo videos. And even have time trials against othere ppl online during bloody palace.

it might be some type of multiplayer that we haven't even seen before. i think something that would be really cool would be a devil may cry version of beast mode (seen in gears of war 3).
don't know exactly how it would work, but i just think being able to control different types of demons with different abilities would be a neat thing to add.
