Mundus announced as new demon king in DmC Devil May Cry

His original form was never shown then. I believe this to be true because Sparda had to have destroyed Mundus's body in order to gain enough time to seal the demon world. Mundus came back and never got his chance to kill Sparda.

No, it was never said that Sparda was strong enough to destroy Mundus' body.

Besides, it was implied that that was his true form because his statue shell was breaking.

I think that was more like his muscles showing out like an anatomy model than his true form.

But why have an anatomy model?

People with any power over someone else usually end up becoming selfish and usually hated. I've seen this happen with landlords and business owners. So, it's the power a person gets that brings out the worst in a lot of people. I'd say that's more of what they were referring to.

Then, by that case, the shape of evil hasn't really changed at all.

Really I thought he looked that because of how badly Dante f8cked him up.
I just love that scene when Mundus opens his wings and darkness like space billows out like a cape behind him.
But yeah, it's a shock that the prince of darkness is a bunch of slime.

(Erm wait ,Vergil mentioned that title but is there any info about the king of demons before Mundus in the original series?)

Not that I remember. The only one mentioned as anything along those lines was Mundus.
