Mount & Blade: Warband is coming to PS4 & XB1 on 16th September

The highly acclaimed 2010 PC title is finally making its way to consoles. It's sequel Bannerlord is coming to PC some time in 2017. While not being known for its graphics the game has won many awards and features the following:

  • Completely open sandbox-RPG set in a fictional medieval scenario, inspired by the middle age of our time and guided by a “trial and error” mentality
  • Huge world map featuring various starting areas and different warring factions with numerous skills and traits
  • Choose your career path and define your own goals on the way to success
  • Challenging and complex, skill-based real-time fights
  • Extensive character creation including skill defining multiple choice questions to define a personal background story
  • Customizable appearance and selectable abilities for your character
  • Improve your skills by using them in combat
  • Total freedom thanks to the non-linear gameplay
  • Besiege, conquer and take over strongholds
  • Exchange your enemy prisoners for ransom money
  • Fight alone or in the online multiplayer mode with up to 32 players
  • Hire local volunteers and mercenaries, take prisoners or gain loyal companions through your deeds
  • Fight on foot or atop of your steed (melee and ranged)
  • Master the handling with Swords, Shields, lances, bows, crossbows and throwing weapons
  • Small encounters or great battles: Experience the diverse fighting management with your troops
  • Increase your reputation among the nobles and enhance your glory
  • Act honourably or live with the consequences of your decisions

Looks great. While I don't enjoy the competitive multiplayer aspect (in any game), I'll be more than happy to get into the single player campaign.

Next year looks like it'll be a good time to get into medieval games.

I only recently started looking into the series after it popped up in PC Gamers top 100 games of all time list. Downloaded the demo and was quite impressed with it and it hasn't aged too badly in 6 years, with mods it's actually gotten far better. Hopefully it means PC version is in the next steam sale & might buy it for PC (purely for mods as some of the huge battle ones look stunning).

Good intro to people who might not have heard of series before Bannerlord hits next year too (which looks superb from early footage I've seen).

I know very little about Mount & Blade, mostly because it seemed mostly like a strategy game (not too into those types of games). The things mentioned in the bullet points do sound very interesting however! Does the game have a story to it?

Yeah it has a story & some dialogue choices to determine alliances & actions in certain events. The only strategy elements really (based on my currently limited knowledge) are troop management & territories to control.

This might explain it a little better:
