I still think Satan is the true demon king. Perhaps Mundus ruling their race was just temporary or something.

Possibly Satan intentionally let Mundus take over the throne as a means to further with his plans in ruling mankind and for Sparda to escape.
If it was temporary, why would Mundus be so sure of himself, saying he was like a god if there was a demon king greater in power than him?
Mundus is the kind of character who would destroy everything in his path until he got what he wanted, and that would include Satan. Mundus went after Dante because he was afraid Dante would grow up to be stronger and defeat him. Vergil even said Mundus was the most cruel and vicious demon. If Satan existed in DmC cannon, Vergil would have mentioned Satan as the cruellest demon instead.
Also, why would Mundus let Satan bide his time and take the demon throne from him at a later date?

I also don't know what Satan would gain from giving his throne to Mundus on a temporary basis if he wanted to rule mankind. Also, why would he want Sparda to escape? Considering Sparda would probably hold a grudge against demons by now, then Satan would be unleashing a threat to himself as well as Mundus.

Nah. I kind of feel that making the father of all evils the big bad of the game, would be taking the easy way out, in a cliche manner.
I thought Mundus was supposed to be DmC's version of Satan anyway? There's something in the DMC wiki about Mundus' 3 eyes being an allusion to Satan's 3 heads in the Divine Comedy, and the Mundus' wings being an allusion to Satan being a fallen angel. I guess in DmC, the wings of Mundus' tower would allude to that, or that feather in his jacket.

Well it could go like this really: In the past, it was Lucifer who was the true Emperor of Hell, whilst Satan was the King of Hell and ruled it along with him. According to Berial, there are several different places of Hell, so there are other sections in Hell where other Demon Lords rule. And they are not just Lords most likely, some are Dukes, Princes, Counts, and so forth.

Lucifer is the leader of the Seven Princes of Hell, whom are a representation of the Seven Deadly Sins. I know in the Manga, Dante and Vergil defeated some, and they could be regarded as the Seven Princes of Hell, but they could possibly be mere manifestations of the sins themselves, and due to their twisted angelic appearance it is further evidence that they were fallen angels. The Seven Princes that is. Mundus could be seen as Lucifer's creation, however, since he was his creation, he too was corrupted with Pride like Lucifer. And so, Mundus decided to 'dethrone' Lucifer and rule Hell itself and take the title for Pride. Thus he is the current head of the Seven Princes of Hell. Or there could also be one where Mundus was once an angel and fell along with Lucifer.

The Seven Princes of Hell are also the main demon lords. They were among the first to be created alongside other demons whom are fallen angels. There could also be this theory of which that, before Mundus dethroned Lucifer, the Seven Demons created the first Hell Gates for the demons to enter and corrupt the world. After Sparda defeated Mundus, he went after the other Princes of Hell to defeat them and seal off the main Hell Gates. Although, the most difficult one would be Satan himself. I can't imagine how Sparda would fare against Lucifer himself.

Leviathan would also be the Gatekeeper of the Demon World.

What if Satan wasn't killed. What if he was sealed by Sparda and when Mundus was defeated the seal broke and Satan was free. i mean think about it. In DMC 3 it is said that Sparda sealed the demon world.

You got a good point on that.

If Satan would be mentioned in the entire new DmC franchise, he'd be known and he'd see Dante and Sparda as a threat.

He can also see Vergil as a useful tool. After what Dante's bro had been through and what has happened in his heart turning off everything he cared about, Satan would use those thoughts of Vergil to his advantage. Like in Castlevania, when Satan influenced Zobek.

Yeah. And we could also discover that Lucifer was the mastermind behind the events of the Devil May Cry series. Like say he predicted that Sparda would rebel against Mundus because it was Lucifer who convinced Sparda to rebel. That action also references the time Lucifer rebelled against God. And he also predicted Vergil would be corrupted and be sent to Hell.

And seeing that Vergil's useful as you said, he would be disguised as a demon helping Vergil trying to escape. Let's say that in order to escape, he would have to kill the Seven Princes of Hell, and use their blood for Yamato to absorb, having enough energy to open a dimensional portal to escape the Demon World. And the reason that it's the Seven Princes of Hell is because also, in the past, when Sparda was fighting and defeated them, he used a binding spell on the Seven Hell Lords, Mundus included since he's one of them, and sealing them completely along with the Demon World.

However, Vergil wasn't aware that by killing them, it also means releasing Lucifer from his prison, and put all of Hell on Earth. Satan of course would pretend to be killed, and being in league with Lucifer the whole time, faking his death.

Would be hoping Sparda found Jesus Christ (like Paul did). For this, he was inspired to rebel against his master (Satan) and betray Mundus.

Maybe that could work.

Still Lucifer would be the final enemy for Dante to face.

Lucifer used Dante's family for his own ends in order to rule the entire world and all of creation.

Wouldn't anyone agree with me that Lucifer should be the final enemy Dante can face in the future games? At least God can back him up.

Ok, this is getting confusing. Is this meant for the original continuity or the reboot continuity?

Sparda never rebelled in the reboot continuity, he was treated as a traitor because he married an angel. It is not even known when he did betrayed Mundus so it could be even 100 years, certainly way after Jesus' death that it if he even existed here.

In the original continuity, Sparda defeated Mundus two Millennium ago with the war likely before then because I certainly doubt it lasted only one year. That should be in the midst of the Roman Empire, way before Jesus' birth. Of course that point is moot as it is Word of God that 'God' and his angels do no exist in the original continuity, not at all.

Of course, this thread is about Lucifer existing which differs depending on the continuity.
In the original continuity, there were once only one realm but when the demon simply known as the 'God of Evil' who separate the realm into two halves, the Human World and the Demon World. This God of Evil would be later slain by Mundus which allowed him to take the throne by himself. So, if there was a Lucifer, he was either the true name of this God of Evil (who could actually be a mix of both God and Satan), a lesser demon under Mundus or Argosax (Mundus' rival) or simply an alternative name of Mundus himself.

In the reboot continuity, Lucifer has a better change of existing but may be gone forever. Mundus is said to be power-hungry and ruthless and that he was the cruelest demon of all which if Lucifer did exist, he would either be dead or so sealed away that he could never escape. Lucifer also could just be an alternative name of Mundus like in the original continuity.

(the God of Evil is mentioned here so I am not lying)
