Level Design

no backtracking=awesome.

I got tired of it when I played DMC 4, it really killed backtracking to me. If you want to talk about linear, that is a DMC game with the most linearity to me.

I didn't mind backtracking too much in DMC 3 once I got the layout of the area, but for DMC 4 somehow it seemed lazy.

I like that fact that for DmC there will be a new area each mission instead of going to old locations again. And while the level design is pretty linear, there seems to be a few branching pathways in the levels, and I'm hoping there will be new areas to unlock with weapons during a second playthrough.

The backtracking in DMC4 was terrible, really lazy, I won't ever say it was good, but I do think there is some overreacting about it. You basically play the same game backwars with a different character, right? Well, I'm gonna play through DmC (which will be longer than half of DMC4 for sure) more than once, DMC is a series with great replay value, I'd even say it's the heart of the series. Playing through it just twice wouldn't be enough to bore me.

Nero's limited gameplay bores me a lot more than the backtracking.

from what I've seen in DmC is its very linear but there seems to be more enemy spawn points. unlike dmc3/4 where there were literally nothing in the area and it was rational to grind for more orbs. Also the linear path of DmC has a logical reason, that being, the world, limbo, is trying to trap or lure you into certain places. the path that's supposed to be taken in DmC is very linear but there are a lot of secrets and the door/key to unlock secret mission should help mix up the journey.

the thing about castlevania LoS is its trying to create a strong atmosphere which it turns restricted your camera. and it made looking for secrets difficult because they would purposefully hide them off camera.

I love being able to control the camera. you can actually look at everything and really appreciate how much detail was put into the game from any place in the level. I played the whole chase sequence in under watch backwards! and it gave a whole new cinematic feeling.

It's definitely possible. DMC2/4 were basically side stories of Dante taking on some sort of job. So that's why their stories were lacking so much, since they tried to put too much content into something as simple as "another day in the life of Dante" thing. So it would be great if you could roam around and come back to the shop to upgrade/buy stuff/take on missions to do. But sadly, that doesn't seem to be NT's style.

Capcom may learn from Dragon's Dogma though... and make like a DMC5 that way... who knows.

Too much backtracking = bad. But a little of it doesn't hurt.
Thats what im saying man. See you understand lol
