Is Dante Poor?

That's actually a really good point and thought Alittleacorn: Dante might work at that carnival. Carnivals would likely pay in cash, probably don't do a lot of background checks on employees (fictional carnivals anyway are always full of people with shady pasts), and someone with Dante's abilities would be perfect for either doing behind the scenes lifting or even wearing some sort of mask/disguise and preforming as an attraction himself.

I want to see Dante as a clown! Ninja Theory! If this doesn't happen patch it in!

He doesn't hide his face from the pretty ladies at the club, so I got doubts on him hiding it at the carnival (it might come off as suspicous to his employer doing that.) If Dante worked there, it'd be like you said, doing something behind the scenes, or just simply operately the rides out in the open. I don't think he'd have much problems with cameras because they might be CCTV ones connected to where Mundus is.

It's a funny mental image though, I can tell you that. Give him the red nose!

It's funny how confused people get, just because Dante isn't the white knight hero type. XD
He isn't the clear, typical hero. He has stains on his background, he is first and foremost a survivor in a world where the world itself is out to get him. So he lives in a grey area, not a pure, selfless white knight, but not an evil, corrupt villain. He takes what he can get, doesn't follow the rules of society and, well, survives.

He know he's gonna be attacked by demons at random times so he probably doesnt bother to get anything of value since it'll probably get trashed anyway. So i dont think he's poor but just doesnt really need or want anything.

He's a nomad, he has no need for cash.

That is, until he start his Devil May Cry business, in which he will need money to pay his rising debts.

I'd say he's poor, but not hobo poor.

As for the trailer, he probably got it from working at the amusement park and the owner gave him a shot even though he's wanted. Some humans can see the good in people no matter the record.

I think you're right. Dante and Vergil must've ran away from their problems after the death of their mother, and they had to watch over each other. living on the streets, they felt the resentment of humans as they looked down upon them, which drove Vergil to deeply despise them. Eventually, someone finds them and asks them what happened to their parents, but there is no records of their mother and father in the system. Someone decides to put them in a foster home until a family decides to adopt them. Dante was beginning to act out at the time, traumatized by the death of his mother, while Vergil held it all in. A family finally wanted to adopt them, but seeing how Dante was behaving they decided to only adopt Vergil, which resulted in the separation of the brothers. Dante became more and more rebellious over time, and he knew he was different among everyone else. People saw him as a freak. He knew he was being watched by demonic apparitions, and harassed by them. He learned to fight by beating the **** out of the orphanage kids, and demons. He later felt he didn't belong in the orphanage, so he ran away and got into trouble wherever he went. Dante has been away from his original home for sometime so he decides to head back, when he got there there were nothing left, but a painting of his father. By exploring the house and reminiscing about his times with his brother and mother, he came across a secret compartment, which contained Sparda's jacket, his shield, and Rebellion in glass casings. He saw there was a third sword casing, but it was empty(Yamato). He took Rebellion, the shield, and his jacket along with him. Dante came across the carnival, and knew it was a perfect place suited for those who were different in society. He ran someone out of their trailer, and took it for himself. He immediately got a job at the carnival as a attraction. he would use rebellion to show his true swordsmanship, which came natural to him as though he was meant to wield a blade. When he raised enough money, he used the money to tailor Sparda's jacket to his own style, and used the metal from Sparda's demonic shield and turned them in to ebony and Ivory. He notice an up rise of Demons after he acquired rebellion, as though they wanted it for something. He's been using his new weapons to rid himself of these demons, but they seemed to keep coming. The news would keep an eye on him at all times, on the order of Mundus, but Vergil has been keeping an eye on his brother for as long as they have, watching over his brother and seeing his progress. He knew he was strong, but he still doesn't know how to awaken his true demon blood. Thus DmC.

It's clear by now that this new Dante will start off in the gray area of the anti-hero. But isn't anyone else worried that he might remain the same by the end of the game? I hate to judge this Dante by comparing it to the old one, but quite frankly, I hope by the end of the game, he raises some spirit and becomes a little more inclined to the hero path and does things out of a genuine desire to fight demons and help humanity (without throwing away his punk attitude and all that, of course).

I think he is an anti-hero at the beginning of the game, but when it is over, I think he will mature and become more a responsible person, my bad, nephilim :). I think his character arc will be just like in DMC3, he starts out kind of a douche, then matures and becomes more responsible.
