Post and discuss any ideas for expanding DMC universe that are *not* standard hack-and-slash shooter games.
=================
My ideas are as follows:

1) Tie-in manga/anime that would cover the time before DMC4 and between DMC4 and DMC5. I would like to see how both Dante and Nero run their demon-hunting business, could be done as jutaposition, or one season covering Dante and another Nero. I'd especially like to see the very beginnings of Nero's business, did Dante have any influence on his decision beyond the events of DMC4. Anime could also expand on relationship between Nero, Credo and Kyrie.

2) A turn-based strategy game, similar maybe to Fire Emblem series. This could utilize literally all characters of previous games on both sides of the conflict.

3) Real-time strategy similar to Battle for Middle Earth series. Again, it could utilize all named characters of previous games, as well as having maybe Order of the Sword mooks as mooks for the "good" side.

4) Prequel game that details Sparda, reasons for and the flow of his rebellion (reason at least is easy to imagine, considering Dante and Vergil, but I'd like to know specifics).
====================
What are your ideas, what would you like to see?

A new manga series covering all characters

New lineage

Mundus return to fight Nero

Dante gets killed by a betrayal and Vergil has to go free his soul and restore his body

Bayonetta crossover game

Devil may cry online mmo

I had 5 or 6 different ideas for a V spinoff before i learned the twist so i have to rethink a few of them because they were built on a different backstory than what we were given.

A Lady/Trish spinoff where they infiltrate a bad guy organization and try to take it down before they get too big.

I wanted a open world spinoff set in Fortuna dealing with the fallout of Nero's actions in 4.

I think a story on how Sparda/Eva met could be interesting.

I wanted to move beyond the Sparda family drama and focus on other characters. I thought about setting it in Japan where we have a Yokai protagonist try and save a town from Urizen's forces.

A crossover game with either DmC, Darkstalkers, Ninja Gaiden or Bayonetta.

@Z218 Yeah, a game dealing with fallout of DMC4 in Fortuna would be a nice thing to have. Now I have an idea of something combining DMC4s graphics, interface and playing style with Fallout 3 / Elder Scrolls style of open world gameplay, items and other RPG elements. So you'd be running around, doing quests, acquiring items, most of which would help in rebuilding Fortuna. Some of the side quests might also deal with helping Kyrie run the orphanage, and so on.

A Lady/Trish spinoff which is more an anthology of different jobs they under take.

A Lucia spin off that delves more into the Guardians of Dumary Island. Maybe a prequel with Matier.

@Z218 and @Picard

Something that occurs to me. The Dumary Island Guardians are interesting as a heroic counterpart to the Order of the Sword. Both taught the legend of Sparda to their young and were visited by him in the past. But whereas the Guardians stayed true to Sparda's path of heroism the Order became corrupt.

If we got some Lucia spin off games, you could have one of them be about a war between the Guardians and the remnants of the Order. Show the philosophical differences between the two factions and maybe suggest the Order was jealous of the Guardians' demon heritage and supposed favoritism from Sparda. I also think it's rather notable that both Arius and Agnus made artificial demons.

That is an interesting idea. It might be incorporated easily enough into idea I had of an immediate follow-up to DMC4, or get somewhat unrelated spinoff with Lucia as you suggested.

I have to admit that I really want to revisit Fortuna. I dig that classicist look.

We should have new Devil May Cry branches all over the globe!

I don't think Dante would entrust his brand to anyone else besides Nero or maybe lady and Trish

So double they be all over the globe

But demon hunting global agency like a paranormal FBI , could work

Agreed, DMC would definitely not expand around the globe. However, we know there are other demon hunters, so it might be interesting to see various demon hunting outlets cooperate on more difficult situations.

Guess various groups can be DMC inspired somehow. I mean their agency is their own, but it could use a "family".

Not even that. As awesome as Dante is, I do not think DMC itself is very well known across the world, at least not in human society. At least that is the impression I got. But you could always have a "family" in "we are all in this crap together".

Since William Blake how about...
  • Lovecraft?
  • Brothers Grimm?
  • Edgar Allan Poe?
  • John Milton - Paradise Lost?

Back when Telltale was still around I wanted them to do a DMC series. I can see it being on a case between the games or about other characters outside the main cast.

That would be awesome. And if we are talking about crossing DMC with other universes, how about crossing it with some of Lovecraft's stuff? Have Dante, Vergil and Nero investigate the demonic cults, maybe have Cthulhu himself as one of lords of the Demon World. And these cults are attempting to summon Cthulhu in order to pave the way for Satan and the end of the world, so they have to stop them. Maybe make a throwback to some of the original concepts of Nero as Sherlock Homes-type investigator, and have him infiltrate the cult in disguise, feeding information back to Dante and Vergil; or else introduce a new character for that purpose, a normal human maybe so you have to stay undercover while collecting documents, notes and listening in on conversations, else you get killed. And once you get enough information, it's party time, call in the heavy hitters and pull out guns and go to town on the cultists; and then you have a time limit within which to destroy the cults.

A crossover game with Gungrave, let the circle be complete as the franchise inspired by DMC finally get to clash.

Dante and Brandon Heat, side by side slaying both demons and Deadmen. Just try to tell me that wouldn't be awesome. :wink:
