Alright I'll sum up the storyline for you.
Centuries ago there was a war between our world and the demon world. The people were being subjagated like nothing before. However one of the demons, Sparda revolted against the demons, sealing even the demon emporor, Mundus.
Now after the death of sparda Mundus is on the verge of breaking free with a demonic army flanking him.
Dante learns about Mundus's plan through a violent encounter with a woman who goes by the name "Trish" Dante and Trish go to Mallet Island where Mundus is attempting to breach the gate. during his time on Mallet Island he encounters several powerful demons. Including his brother Vergil (Nelo Angelo) who has been corrupted by Mundus. However it isn't until the death of Griffon that Dante sees just how heinous Mundus's ways are. Eventually Trish reveals her true agenda during a showdown with a demonic bio-weapon called the nightmare. Dante kills it and in spite of Trish's deception he saves her from being crushed. She enquires as to why he saved her life, it was because she looked like his mother. Dante then told her to stay out of his sight.
After unlocking the sealed entrance to Mundus's lair he briefly converses with Mundus who then shows dante the body of trish suspended at the opposite end of the hall and then impales Dante wiith his demonic energy. Mundus builds up his power and fires a shot at Dante but Trish dived in the way, saving him but not herself. Mundus charges his power again but the Sparda inside Dante had awoken and he told Mundus to stop hiding in his statue. Mundus blasted them both into a void where, after a brief conversation regarding Dante's mother an epic battle began. Both were severely injured but Dante was the only on who re emerged in the hallway, after leaving the Sparda sword and his amulet with Trish, Dante made his way to escape Mallet Island before it collapsed. He was okay for time until the floor gave way in the aeroplane room where the final battle with began. Mundus seemed to be falling to pieces but Dante couldn't defeat him this time. Then Dante heard his mother's voice say "Dante, Dante, you can do it" Then Trish appeared and with all speed transferred her power to Dante who used it in conjunction with his own power for a "Jackpot" shot which sealed mundus once again.
After a warm embrace Trish tells Dante "It's too late"
Dante replied "It's never too late"
which was when an old plane crashed in but still ok to fly. Dante and Trish got in shooting debris out of the way and flying out to freedom.
Even though they escaped Dante told Trish that the Underworld's evil was still around.
She then said that it was nothing to dwell over as they had the legenday dark knight Dante.
Getting back to Dante's shop they rename it "Devil never cry" and Trish becomes Dante's partener in crime.
