There was a scene in the trailer where he clutched his head a flash of a brain scan came on screen. During that it also flashed back to the interrogation room for a split second.
It implies that what "Dante" is seeing or doing may not really be happening.

Actually, when Dante is in the interrogation room, he seems, if not younger, more thin and has full black hair, but when he runs around the streets, he seems a tiny bit older (or just to be in a better condition) and he has grown the patch of white hair. So, I'd say, the flashbacks are his memories that are kicking up when he is in a worked-up state of mind.

Agreed.

Who knows, I may have taken one tiny flash of a brain scan and a couple unsettling trailer breakdowns too seriously, but can someone please reassure me of this not being the case.
I doubt any of us can reassure you of anything since we only know as much as you do at this point.
But! If there is some truth to him being mentally unstable in DmC, it would probably be because the human world labels him as such. I mean if you think about it, if some streetkid with an attitude claims that he can see demons (and angels?) and that he is the only one who can fight them, anybody would smack the Crazy sign on his forehead. Kinda like people who can see ghosts. If you're in a society where seeing ghosts is not the norm, you'll get the crazy tag, too.
With that said, when has Dante ever NOT been mentally unstable? XD

seeing that Dante's a wack job maybe just maybe he might have a split personality he must be the original Dante we know but when he maybe loses it he dye's his hair black and becomes DmC Dante and maybe in the end he'll become back to his normal self this is just a theory. another theory that they might show Vergil but in the end we find out there's no Vergil no Dante's twin Dante himself was Vergil he had a split personality and then......

i woke up.
Please no. I think I might actually cry if they do that. D:

To me the interrogation room was a mental hospital. And they have him in for questioning because of the things he's talked about, or saw, or heard before. And when he is outside, he has no memory about it, besides flash backs. maybe he broke out after they fried his mind or maybe he was saved by that girl

hey did anyone else noticed that when they showed him in the interrogation room tied up by chains he looks alot younger then he does look in the parts fighting demons.i think that he might be 13 years old so it looks like it.maybe this is when dantes mother got killed by demons and the hole town was destroyed and he might be the only survivor so some people just took him to ask questions but also find out he is a demon and want to knw more about him

when you put it that way, and you take into account that "demons are everywhere" it tells me that they were either looking for him, or have some sort of security that monitors over the humans, looking for potentiel threats.... or even as recruits.

Yeah, since I mentioned it earlier in this thread already. xD

yea, but there are still people in limbo city. and the real world doesnt look destroyed, its just has an emptiness to it.

Oh, only thing I mentioned was the time span between the two scenes; I didn't speculate anything on it what happened and what lead to what.

True. Dante did seem younger. and the guy speaking to him seems like he's asking a hypnotic question. And he wants Dante to respond accordingly and not just asking his name.
i think something did happen where he was able to escape the interrogation room and thats when the demons began looking for him. Maybe they knew he was the son of Sparta, and after the demon world was put in its place, their next move was to cut all ties with Sparta for insurance.

well it sounds pretty much possible

This is SPARTAAAAAAAAA!!!

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist!
It's Sparda, btw.

OT: What if the kid being interrogated isn't Dante? I know it's all speculation (but what ISN'T speculation, right?) but there is a slim possibility that Vergil is in the game, and the kid being interrogated might actually be Vergil. From the past DMC games, it's clear that the demon world is unaware that Sparda had TWIN sons. And the kid that is chained never actually said HIS name is Dante. That clip came from another scene. Actually I don't think he even said it in that scene either, I think it was just the voice clip that they edited over it for the trailer.

^But the kid chained up was wearing same top and same jewellery as Dante running outdoors. I don't think Vergil would have those two necklaces like Dante... if it was the amulets, then maybe, but like this it just don't seem to add up that neatly.

im sure its dante in the room.
And i also heard that tam tam said that the hooded girl in the video will play a significant role in the story. he didnt say specifically with dante, just the story.

Agreed. It has to be Dante.
I wonder what this significant role for the girl could be? In the trailer she and Dante seemed to work together, but how they ended up to do so? And since we know like zero about the story at this point, it's hard to speculate it in any direction.

Worst case scenario: they've given Vergil a sex-change and HE is the girl.
I'm not kidding, I'm dead serious. Vergil and Dante are sorta based off The Divine Comedy, where Virgil was Dante's guide through hell. NT might be using this girl sort of as a 'guide' for Dante. Vergilica. Or maybe Angelica? I wonder what they're going to name her?
Now I have my doubts that we'll ever see anything about Vergil ever again. Not even in reference.

Dear lord! Anything but that! I don't want to see Vergil transformed into a girl. I'm hoping and believing that the girl will have no connection to Vergil. xP
But the girl might act as some sort of "guide" for Dante, yes. I really wonder how the story will be... and I'd like to know the girl's name, too, so I could refer to her with it instead of "that girl". C'mon, NT and Capcom, tell us more already...! xD

Diss the old Dante in favor of the new one. Nice.

Seriously, we couldn't tell you anymore about his history other than the demon invasion happening in his childhood because that was all the information that was given to us. You imply that ANY character that doesn't have a deep past for us to know about, is a poorly developed character? LOL. It just seems like you're trying to find reasons to stick up for the reboot by dissing the old Dante, and also using poor implications. Dante was a great character. He was a wise cracking, laid back BAMF that most of this entire site is a fan of. You sounded like Taneem for a second when you called him a poorly developed character. -_- DMC isn't DMC without Dante, just like MGS isn't MGS without Snake, Ninja Gaiden isn't Ninja Gaiden without Ryu Hayabusa, and Super Mario Bros. isn't SMB without Mario. Call Dante a poorly developed character all you want, but if weren't for him, DMC wouldn't be what it was.

Dude i think you misunderstood what i meant. I never dissed the character nor called him someone i wanted replaced or implied that the reboot version is better than the old version.

All i had meant to say was that his past wasnt really defined so that you could have a lot of freedom with coming up with scenarios set in the past as long as you connect it back to the series. For example, you could have him grew up in a life of luxury or grew up as apart of a circus act as long as you connect back to him becoming a mercenary and later on a demon hunter. So him having mental problems or being thought to have mental problems is something i can accept as long as they tie it in to his future character. plus there was some indication in the past canon that he did have mental problems if you believe that the light novel was canon.

I think i used the wrong phrase or i had used it with specifying what t meant. I just said he was a poorly developed character which is different than being a bad character to me. For me , a poorly developed character is someone i like and want to see more of because i was impressed with the character but haven't been able to keep up that level of love for the character since the other things i saw wasn't at that level. or the writer didn't bother developing past what we have seen before.

And example of this would be me coming into the series with dmc3 and loving it and wanting to see more but wasnt impressed with most of what i found. thats not the say that there wasnt any chances since they had both an anime and a game to further develop dantes story. But they didnt and what they gave me didnt make me feel the same way dmc3 did and didnt make me continue caring about the character. The anime worked when it didnt focus on dante and dante didnt really feel like he needed to be in 4. nero had it covered.

Im not saying he is a bad character but he could be better and he needs someone who is willing to try to make him better .

she could be lady. all we really know is that she is human since she goes invisible like the others when limbo changes.
