I found something weird...

Well, I like some pop songs too (I grew up in the 80s and 90s :p), but this just fell into the category of an annoying one for me. I'm not saying all pop is annoying, just this one in particular is.

But please, don't assume things about my character just because I don't like this one :/ I don't do things because of them being 'en vogue' or not.

Well, I'm sorry, but your sentence of ''it's an annoying pop song'' gave me the wrong impression. I thought the point in that sentence was that it was annoying because it was a pop song, which doesn't make sense considering Sinatra made pop music as well. I don't see what's annoying about it, because I haven't heard any arguments as to why it's annoying.

Railazel: ''The snares are very distracting, the song doesn't really fit (like I said), and there's so much going on in the song it's hard to pay attention to which part you're supposed to be focused on.''

I'd say that's an opinion. I thought it fit Bayonetta perfectly. The theme of love (and sexually suggestive things) is constantly brought to your attention in the game. There are points where I could seriously see Bayonetta kiss angels before killing them, and so on. I don't know what it means that ''there's so much going on in the song etc''. You can follow the song just as well as the original version, the only difference is that it's more upbeat and plays at a higher tempo with a few instruments lightly in the background, which fits well with the gameplay. So... it's really not inferior to the old version of the song, nor does it not fit the game.

Hmm...so "Fly Me To The Moon" is one of those songs or works that that aren't copyrighted or legally restristed so various artists or whatever can use it or make their own versions of it sort of like Drovaks' Symphony No. 9 New World Symphony.

So who made the original version of Fly Me To The Moon?

I'm guessing it's still copyrighted to whoever was Bart Howard's (the original song writer) producer in 1954. Of course, if that company doesn't exist anymore, there's a good chance it's not restricted anymore.

Well, that's not what I meant, I meant it was just now a pop song, and it was annoying.

I mentioned why I don't like it though - that "climax" remix made it very shallow and pop-like (think like...today's pop, and how vapid it is a lot of the time), and it lacked the romance of the original. I don't feel it fit well, because I honestly believe that Kamiya's eccentricities for over-the-top just does not convey well with sexiness. DMC's over-the-top campy cool works, but Bayonetta's over-the-top sexuality does not (at least to me), and that's why I don't like it. The juxtaposition of high-octane action and provocative sexuality is just embarrassing to me :/ I also hate Bayo's hairdo (love the pixie cut in the sequel), and somewhat skeevy hair suit. Even though I fall head over heels for gals in glasses, I don't really find her sexy, so when she does something that's supposed to be sexy, I just...sorta roll my eyes.

So who made the original version of Fly Me To The Moon?

It was written by Bart Howard back in '54. I think it hit public domain several years ago. Sorreh, not public domain yet :x

Like I said, you might argue that it lacks what the original had, but at the same time, you could argue it adds some things. Like I said in response to Railazel:
Railazel: ''The snares are very distracting, the song doesn't really fit (like I said), and there's so much going on in the song it's hard to pay attention to which part you're supposed to be focused on.''

Aside from that, I'd say the Frank Sinatra version isn't all that excellent either. It does not exude romance to me, it's just a middle-aged guy singing the lyrics fairly slowly and in the way that was standard practice at the time. It even gets a bit boring after a while. Even Kay Ballard did a better job expressing the emotions that come with the song.

Well, yeah, of course it's my opinion, but you're sorta arguing against my opinion and supplementing it with your own :/

I'm saying you can't pass off your opinion as though it's a fact. I'm sure it is a fact in your mind, but life does not work that way. No offense intended. The fact is, the song is not by default 'bad' just because you dislike it. I happened to like it, and I thought it fit the game well. If somebody disagrees, that's fine, but it does not make him right and me wrong.

This isn't even what we were talking about, so this whole passage makes me think it's not the song you don't like, it's the game itself, and the fact that the song was altered to fit it. It lacked the romance of the original? That depends on who sang it - I don't feel the romance in Sinatra's version. Aside from that, the Bayonetta version not only lacks things, it also added things, so there's no reason to say this version is 'objectively worse than the old version'.

I wasn't passing it off as fact, everything I said came with a heaping helping of "I feel" and "to me" and was a justification for why I myself wasn't too keen on it.

The fact that you just countered my comment of "yes it is my opinion" by saying "you can't pass off your opinion as fact" is sorta makin' my head spin.

Hey, YouTube comments have threads now, they're turning into us :p

Well, this is what you said:
''That's mostly it. I think the "climax" version lost a lot of the song's essence. The lyrics don't fit very well (like Rai said), and it honestly just got turned into a very shallow pop song. It just doesn't sound romantic to me anymore.''

This is an opinion. I suppose that should've been made a bit clearer, because it says ''the lyrics don't fit very well''. This is formulated as though it's a fact, which it isn't. I just argued that I thought the lyrics fit fine. If you meant it as an opinion, then you should've said something like ''I think the lyrics don't fit very well'' or ''In my opinion... etc''.

Look at what words the paragraph you quoted is sandwiching - "I think" and "to me" perfectly establish the whole "my opinion" part :/ The subject was the song, but the tone was how it was clearly my opinion of not liking it.

Yeah, but you started a new subject in the next sentence. First you said the climax version lost a lot of the song's essence. Then the subject changes to ''the lyrics don't fit very well'' in the next sentence. I was responding to that new subject. So that's not a fact, because I disagree. And that's the end of it (I hope).

Don't get the wrong impression, I love the song alot, but I can see it's flaws.

The theme of love (and sexually suggestive things) is constantly brought to your attention in the game. There are points where I could seriously see Bayonetta kiss angels before killing them, and so on.

While sexuality is a highly- beloved theme in the game, the song isn't sexual in nature and romance was never really a focus in the game outside of... ummm... that one guy's (yeah, he's kind of forgettable) crush on Bayonetta which was only responded with small teases from Bayonetta and never fully realized. So verses like "please be true" or "hold my hand" don't really fit well and makes me wonder when exactly did the game reach a romantic point?

I don't know what it means that ''there's so much going on in the song etc''. You can follow the song just as well as the original version, the only difference is that it's more upbeat and plays at a higher tempo with a few instruments lightly in the background, which fits well with the gameplay.

Because the keyboard melodies are almost "jazz improv"- ish and tend to garner too much attention to itself. So it's all crazy (catchy and cool but crazy) and draws attention away from the central point of the song, the vocals. Thus, to the ears of someone like TxA, it might sound like a bunch of melodic mess coupled with some pretty women singing.

However, I did say that the song fits well outside of the lyrics. It has all of the instrumental themes the game generally has, so it's fine on that note.

So... it's really not inferior to the old version of the song.

The classics are always superior, my friend. While Bayonetta's version of the song does have its flavor and is very easy to get into, the classic version has a certain classiness to it that you would expect from a song that was mostly performed in high- class bars and clubs, so it's easier to listen to for older ears and is smooth enough that you can just simply relax and enjoy it.

Whatever its flaws are is also subjective.

Well, I'd say love in general is a theme in the game. When Cereza comes into play as a child, etc.
I think ''hold my hand'' fits perfectly because it's meant sarcastically. You're slaughtering angels while that song plays - how perfect is that? :)

Alright, well, again, an opinion. I thought it fit the combat perfectly. If it was just somebody singing without any ''crazy'' background instruments, it would not fit the gameplay.

That's exactly the kind of sentiment that makes new artists feel like they're piles of s*it. There have been a few times when I thought remixes were better than the original. If you come in with an attitude of ''nope, I'm not even going to listen, because classics are always superior'', then your mind is already made up in that 'the classics are superior no matter what'. It's like a placebo effect that won't let you go until you decide to love songs for what they are, not for what they once were. It's funny, there's so many people here who think people who don't like DmC must be 'afraid of change', but a similar thing seems to be happening with you. I like songs based on how I feel about the version in question, not based on how I feel about the song's classic version.

TXA... we both know your opinions are being passed off as undisputed fact. Just admit it already.

Sometimes I think they watched Panty & Stocking to get ideas for DmC considering some of the plot devices it has in common. However, I couldn't see Vergil just sitting around all day eating cake and candy. However, Dante has Panty's sleeping around trait down pat.
but that is what vergil did for most of the game

Eh... I can sort of hear it... kind of...a little bit.
If that was the intention, I wonder how many people caught it? Also I too liked Bayonetta's version of Fly me to the moon. It was quite nice :)
