I came up with this wild idea...

What kind of pacing suits DMC best

Wow dudes, you surprised me, I thought you'd call me crazy  well it sure is nice to see open minded opinions

well you are crazy :P but its a gr8 idea :D

Apologies for being an insufferable old-schoolist, but Mission based, to Me, is the quintessential DMC feeling.

Nooo.:( Don't say that, Railazel; there's nothing wrong with Zilla's opinion. Mission based is as good as many other, it's about taste and opinions, after all.

Apology not accepted. Go somewhere with your stuck-in-the-past ignorance. We don't need you.
Unless your joke has been lost on Me, I find that statement a little ironic considering the fact that I have a New-Dante avatar.

But tell Me this, for those who support the idea and would enjoy a faster paced mission progression, how would the whole Mission ranking system work? How would the player decide what moves and items they want to purchase, etc?

The joke was lost on you. It's okay though, I'm still learning.

Did you ever know what stuff you would buy when you first played?

I see my joke was lost on you too.

Haha! You should've added some sort of smiley at the end of your sentence, so people would've guessed it was a joke. In internet no one can see your expression or hear voice, so misunderstandings happen. People have soemtimes misunderstood me, too, eeks.

^ No, but that's not really the point. The point is that with the break You get between missions allows the player to look through all available moves and items, reading their descriptions of what they do and perhaps even a little video demonstrating what they look like (a la DMC 4) but not being of any expense to the time it's currently taking You to complete the current mission.

Unless I've taken the OP up wrong, He wants to remove the 'Mission Start/Power Up' screen and simply skip straight to the next mission after the previous missions' cutscene, essentially leaving all the powering up and item purchasing to the in-game Divinity Statues. But again, forcing us to use the Divinity statues would result in a loss of time, which would obviously muck up any chances of receiving an S rank.

As for an Open World environment, that just wouldn't feel right to Me in the slightest, hearing that unforgettable noise every time You press 'Mission Start' accompanied by the screen slowly fading is just as much a needed element of DMC to Me as the Stinger is!

I guess it's kind of out of habit. I remember I was in this forum where people hardly used smileys, so you kind of had to pick up on their sarcasm.

So here I shall rephrase:

Ah yes, the speed run. However, that really depends on if speed is actually important.

For missions just go to a....dun dun...mission mode that is separate from the story mode in which you can replay all the missions like lets say Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days plus having co-op sounds fun too. As for mission ranking.....why not do a Sonic 06/Sonic Adventure type thing cause open world and mission ranking system worked well with those games.

Shops or Divinity Statues.

In fact I think a more open world RPG or something like it is pretty cool.....but I think NT or Capcom may not try that for DmC but hope they do it for the 2015 planned DMC5 because Itsuno can apply the RPG/open world elements of his Dragon's Dogma to DMC5 if he is smart.

Ooooooohhh... an RPG- esque DMC. Customizable weapons.... Ability points for purchasing new skills... *drool*

I'm not so sure, We've already sort of had that since 2, where You could simply scroll through and select the mission you wanted to play, and on which difficulty. But having a separate Story mode which sacrifices all the bells and whistles for the sake of faster pacing seems a little off to Me. It just wouldn't feel right to finish a mission and not receive a ranking, but instead be shoved straight into the first area of the following mission.

As for Co-Op, RPG elements, Open World, etc... I'm afraid I'm going to have to apply a little bit of 'I hate everything DmC' mentality here and hope that none of what You guys want ever makes it near My DMC.
