I came up with this wild idea...

What kind of pacing suits DMC best

What would it be like, if DMC's mission based pacing structure was scrapped completely and replaced with continuous pacing that is used in most of action games for example: God of War, Metal Gear Solid, and many others?

Or something completely different?

Go ahead and give me your thoughts...

Not a fan of the God of war style system since i can go back and replay stuff but and open world nice. I would like a merge of the mission based thing and open would system. Open world would just be side mission stuff and a good way to find demons and practice your moves and farm orbs and stuff while the mission are just story based.

I always wanted to see a more open world style like infamous or darksiders tried at least once.
I wonder why they're not doing with the reboot? Imagine yourself running through Limbo City, getting side missions and stuff. That would be awesome.

I'm just gonna be lazy and answer all of you at once. I agree with all of you, but I'm going to add this:

This is what I've been saying.

I've been telling people over and over that DmC needed an explorable world like Darksiders. I said, "explorable", not "open-world". I want my DmC with my Metroidvania, but the only place I can get that is with the Darksiders series. Which is unfortunate. But no matter. It's only a matter of time before other developers see the light and do the same thing.

However, not even Darksiders is 100% Metroidvania. It's more like Zelda because both of these games' over-worlds are divided into different dungeons. What we need is all of the different sections molded into one world, like Symphony of the Night. Limbo in DmC could have been that one world. Oh well.

One day. One day someone will make a game like that. Muramasa: Curse of the Demon Blade came close, but it didn't have Metroid ablities. It only had different colored blades to unlock the various parts of the world. Close, not enough.

Is it possible to do 'open-world', 'mission-based', and 'metroidvania' and the same time? Yes, because Darksiders II did it, and did it reasonably well. The DS series even had great platforming, in my humble opinion.

No, I do not work for THQ. I'm just saying it's a shame that DmC didn't have this.

However, DmC does have multiple pathways when it comes to platforming. So, at the very least, it has that. Which is great. I really think they went above and beyond in that regard, while still staying true to the combat mechanics.

I like the mission aspect thats in DMC games cuz it allows me to relive the awesome moments in the game like the fight with Virgil in DMC 3 or any boss fight really so i want that aspect to stay but add some open world exploration type thing as an extra to do. Actually i would like to see the bloody palace as a more open would type thing and not just an arena, instead of just warping to the next floor you'd have to find your way there with maybe so extras hidden here and there Then you'd warp to a new areas after a certain amount of floors with a new looks and feel to it like how the city demo looks really different from the more recent overturn demo.

Changing the basic structure of a series is not something that should be done casually. Something like that should only be done if there is a very good reason and if done a lot of thought needs to be put into every single detail of every change.

Devil May Cry lacks a reason to change the mission based structure and doing so would harm replayability and require extensive changes to the progression of both the story and gameplay without providing any benifit to the series. A mission based structure is what suits games like Devil May Cry the best.

Adding some exploration while keeping the current mission based structure could be a good addition and wouldn't hurt as long as it was optional and didn't interfere with the pacing.

LoS II will be on Open-world now.Just saying.
If lords of shadow will be on open-world now, so as DmC.I love exploring and i guess many people too.

I like both non-stop open world things and the mission paced thing that's been going on in the Devil May Cry series, so either one of them would be nice in a DMC/DmC game. But then, if it didn't have missions, then there wouldn't be mission rankings or the need to try to get better scores from the missions. To me it wouldn't be that big of loss, because after the couple first easy rounds I'm stuck with results like "C", but some hardcore gamers might miss after it.
But all in all, I wouldn't mind to see Devil May Cry experiment with different things and structures. It could be very fun. The games would maybe have lots and lots more content and side missions and overall stuff to do and provide longer play-time.

Just Cause 2 style open world is probably my favorite kind, I mean, come on, you START the game JUMPING OUT OF A ****ING HELICOPTER

I'm tired of Mission based gameplay, it's too small and too narrow of a direction.

It should be just like True Crime. Roam around the world. Choose which demon world you wanna enter.

I would not care if each organization member had their own hideout. You get to it by exploration. Hell, you can just stumble over a hideout and the story would progress with what you've done first, second, third, etc. Secret enemies at the edges of the open world, available to you with the exception that you use a weapon/ability gained from a certain enemy.

This world screams for Open world activity. But, what really gets me, is if we really do have that option and they're saving it as a surprise.

Remember the second trailer where Dante is walking around the world before Limbo interferes and the writing on the walls shows up? Looked pretty damn awesome.

I like the idea of non-stop gameplay, and that seems to be the direction it's going, but I think it be more innovative (and would **** off the fans more) if they made it open world.

Also im after nonstop gameplay In DmC, propably act based previous titles maded me bored by repeat same levels only more challenging as more enemies appeared in higher difficulty.

I root for act-based...like each Act is like a mini arc and could be easily structured like 2-3 missions per Act but a mission based one like your standard DMC is fine mainly because it is very easy to replay any mission/stage for any purpose(wanna refight a certain boss or train in a comfortable setting/level grinding purposes) something non-stop action lacks.

Act or Mission based.

maybe because having an open world might detract from the whole "man on the run" theme?

I feel a Vergil game would suit the open world theme more because he has more wanderlust and soul searching to do.

I think they should expirement with different story telling elements and get out of these gothic castles and fighting old guys who want to be gods.

If Dante is stuck cleaning up his father's messes than lets go around the world and fight all sorts of threats. Sparda's over 2000 years old so he must have been every where. So the middle east and south america should be just as viable.

lets have Dante tangle with gods and threats larger than life. He cant be the coolest character around if he just beats up old guys .

i agree DS and DS2 has very awesome platforming....and i have them both :D....i think if DmC took that direction it would be awesome and more enjoyable....but for me the ending of a mission was just to rest my hands no more no less lol :D
