How to play DmC on PC/Laptop with a controller?

What are you gonna do with all that power?

Hello all,

I recently purchased a laptop that I specifically intended to play DmC on. Now, after a few days, I've gotten quite used to playing with a keyboard + mouse but it's still quite confusing at times.

Instead, I'd like to use my 360 controller or my PS3 controller. However, when I plug in my 360 controller most of the moves work fine, except it's like the 'up' button is pressed in because the camera literally spins around in circles and in the main menu, every time I scroll down it goes right back up.

And when I plug in my PS3 controller, all the buttons are all mixed up, and the 'X' button does function like it's supposed to.

Does anybody here have any experience with playing DmC on a PC with a controller? Any help would be greatly appreciated. DmC is surprisingly well optimized to play on a keyboard, but I'd rather have the ease of a controller instead. :)

Thanks in advance!

(I've already looked online for solutions, but I couldn't find something that helped me. So maybe if there's someone here who plays it like this could help me...?)

Ive always used a 360 controller on my old PC with no issues at all, could try redownloading the drivers for it or maybe downloading a key mapping program.

Xpadder is always highly recommended on lots of forums I visit and recently been hearing about joy2key too. However there are some details about another program here if you want to take a look.

Thanks for your responses, guys. I guess I'll try that. It's just weird, because people have been telling me that (I'm on Windows 8) I can just plug in my controller and it'll work. I did that with Just Cause 2 and I had no issues there.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I figured out what it is. The game just gets hella confused when I plug it in and the game is already loaded. I just needed to plug my controller in before starting up the game. :)

My 360 controller usually works fine on it, but I had the same issues you had when trying out my PS3 controller.
Steam says it has full controller support, which is a lie. I've had multitudinous amounts of issues with it.

Yeah, my PS3 controller keeps having issues, but to be honest, I don't care as long as my 360 controller keeps on working just fine. ;-)

I tried playing DMC4 with a PS3 controller the other day and I was having issues, but at least in that game you could customize the controls. I don't think you can in DmC.

No, you can customize your controls in DmC. In the main menu under options > controls.
