I've been lurking for a while now but finally feel like posting. I started with DmC, then half of DMC4 (terrible place to start the series if I'm honest) and just now finished DMC1. It shows it's age but is actually pretty damn good. My expectation was that I'd just skip to 3 after a brief look at 1 but it held on to me.
Hopefully by the time I get back to DMC4 I'll have the skills to appreciate the mechanics and a connection with the characters and world lore. Coming to it as a new player all that stands out is the rehashing of levels and the need to grind to unlock (to say nothing of player mastery) the exciting looking skills everyone uses in gameplay videos. I can see how it could be awesome if you actually know how to play though.
