Hell/Frost & Blood/Ghost?

So, I double checked Human and Devil Hunter difficulties to see exactly how canon their appearance is; turns out there's no avoiding them, so it doesn't seem like they are gameplay exclusive. What's up with them? Seriously? Demons that are 100% immune to conventional weapons AND angelic weaponry? It's evident that only nephilim can handle demons of this variety of demon, which is pretty wack. How would angels deal with Blood Rages or Hell Knights?

I meant story wise, but considering they are introduced at a particular story event and there's no difficulty they don't appear, they aren't only gameplay enemies.

Well I think they barely appear on easier difficulties + I heard they don't appear at all in Vergil's Downfall, so most likely they really are only gameplay mechanic

The best I got is that those were specifically designed for Dante, and he killed all of them through the course of the story.

Or they can be affected by human or angelic weaponry, but only ones of high caliber.(Ex:Tanks, rocket launchers, mortars etc.)

No they didn't.
I played every difficulty of VD and there were no color-coated enemies.
You're sure? I really recall them reappearing... I'll double check later, but I'll take your word on it until then. I suppose a sequel might clarify if they were or were not all wiped out by Dante (and/or if there is a special cause for their existence) Weird thing to throw unique enemies at a guy who just has to juggle his specific abilities to take them down. Still, until we get a DmC2, it should suffice for my fan musings of a literal nephilim (half-human and half-angel) defending himself amongst this new demon filled world.

Found something to prove my point:

When you think about it, an enemy that cannot be damaged by conventional or specific supernatural weapons would be the perfect weapon to have in a war.

It's clear they exist within the narrative, within the universe, but they exist much more for a specific kind of gameplay experience.

I find it odd that demons would want to be impervious to their own weaponry... Maybe for nephilim and civil battles/wars but I don't see how a demon would want to be weak solely to angelic weaponry.

I'm going to agree with the above poster who claims it's plausible that those demons were made this way (somehow) purely to combat Dante, since they make no appearance following Mundus' defeat.
