Is final fantasy VII an action RPG? I thought it was a JRPG...
I'll give examples to my list too then:

Arcade (Geometry wars, Bubble bubble, Wik, etc.)
Real time strategy (Starcraft)
RPG (Final Fantasy series, the elder scrolls series, etc)
Platformer (Super mario 64)
Adventure (Legend of Zelda series)
Hack'n'Slash (Devil May Cry series)
First Person Shooter (DOOM series)

I might as say my favorite game for each genre I like to. Let's see...This is in no particular order.

Action- Uncharted 2, Devil May Cry 3: SE, inFAMOUS
Shooter- Killzone 2, Modern Warfare 1 & 2
Fighting- Tekken: DR
Racing- Motorstorm: Arctic Edge
RPG- Oblivion, Final Fantasy XIII
Puzzle- Crush

Uhh....I think that's it.

Honestly aka, I have no idea what kind of RPG Final Fantasy VII is. I just said action because the game has fighting in it XD.

But if I said that, then most (if not all) RPG video games would be action RPGs...so my bad xP

What is 'J'RPG?

JRPG stands for Japanese RPG's, they are usually more heavy on the story instead of gigantic free roaming worlds (Oblivion, Fallout 3, and such.).

Final Fantasy VII is pretty narrow when you think of it, there is no loads of caverns to explore nor lots of sidequests. But on the other hand the sidequests that is there and the caverns to explore usually got alot more variety and stuff in them.

Action RPGs have action game style combat, but with leveling up and other RPG elements. Hope that helps.

I see. So would Mass Effect be considered an Action RPG? It's actually a very vast game with quite a few sidequests.

Mass effect is a western rpg, made from the US, you could call it action RPG if you want to though.

Mass Effect
The elder scrolls
Fallout 3
Guns

All of those are western RPG's, some of them failing pretty hard... Anyways, all of those have big free roaming and lots of sidequests.
Or, I don't know about Mass Effect but I think it does.

Styrofoam! D:
1.RPG(Final Fantasy series, Xenosaga(?), and others I can't think of.)
2.Fighting(Soul Calibur)
3.Survival Horror(Fatal Frame/Project Zero series)

Well, I know one that doesn't fail. The Elder Scrolls. The only and I do mean only game I know of that lets you play as a lizard man who ISN'T evil. Plus, Argonians are completely resistant to disease and poison, and they can breath water. ^_^
