This DLC is an extra playable chapter in Final Fantasy XIII-2, where it allows you to play as Lightning again. This time, you will fight Caius in a one on one fight.

Unlike the first playable chapter in Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning has access to her own set of Paradigm roles, with similar skills like Serah or Noel's Paradigm Roles. For example, Lightning's Paladin role has the similar function as Commando role. Other than that, Lightning has some unique abilities that only she can use. However, Lightning does not have Medic role, and you can only use limited amount of items to heal her if she is in danger.

The fight against Caius is not exactly hard, but not simple as well. The most important thing in fighting Caius is that you need to keep changing your Paradigm roles often, since Caius has a lot of powerful attacks as well as has his own Stances. His Stances function similar as Paradigm Roles, such as his Commando Stance allows Caius to use powerful devastating attacks such as Blast Wave.

Whether you will win or lose against Caius, you will receive CP that allows Lightning to level up. As she levels up, her stats will increase as well as learn new Skills and new Roles. Depending on how good you are, you might be able to beat Caius with low level.

One thing that is not mentioned in this DLC is that beating Caius in a certain allotted time allows you to fight him again in his Chaos Bahamut form. To do so however, you need to be at least level 2 or 3 since Lightning will have higher Attack and Magic stats if she is leveled enough. Chaos Bahamut battle is similar to his final battle in Final Fantasy XIII-2, except that this Chaos Bahamut has access to certain unique skills such as Resist Wind, which reduces damage from Wind attacks by Lightning. Like the previous Caius battle, switching Paradigm roles is the key to beat Chaos Bahamut.

Completing this DLC episode will reward you Lightning's crystal, which allows you to use her in your party in the main game as a 'Monster'. Her role is Commando, and she has some decent stats if she is leveled enough. Depending on your playstyle, her addition to your party may or may not be valuable to your party, since she functions like any other recruitable monsters in the game. You can always play this DLC chapter over and over again if you want.

This DLC explains certain unexplained things in the main game, such as what happened in the game's ending. Unfortunately, this DLC does not clarify enough of the mysteries in the game, and I heavily speculate that there will be a sequel for Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Considering it's price of $4.99, it is hard to justify that this DLC is worth purchasing, since the DLC does not explain much of the game's mystery, and Lightning is only playable in this DLC with her new set of skills. If you have a lot of money, perhaps you might consider purchasing this DLC. If not, I suggest you wait for a complete edition for Final Fantasy XIII-2 that will includes all DLC in the game, since the DLC stuffs for Final Fantasy XIII-2 are quite pricey to me.

Score - 7/10
