Everything we know about Sparda

Hi everyone
Seeing how topics absolutely not related to the Legendary Dark Knight change into discussions about his life, I have thought that it could be a good idea to create a thread dedicated solely to him. Looking through the search results, I've found several discussions centered about Sparda, but all of them were more or less off-topic.
This is supposed to be a thread about both facts and speculations. Hope it's not a bad idea, cheers

Like Dante said, not much is known about him outside myths.
But may I point out that the part about him being general might very likely not be true, he is always called a legendary swordsman and legendary dark knight, but nothing indicates he was actually serving Mundus directly.

It's a shame we don't know more as Sparda has such a central role in the series, he's like the glue that ties each game to each other.
