Does Sparda represent old Dante in DmC?

Do you think Sparda in this game represents old Dante as a sort of "Legend"?

I was looking back at that portrait of Sparda, and something clicked into my mind. What if this Sparda is suppose to represent old Dante?

both wear red long outfits, and both (presumably) have white hair. Both hold Rebellion also.

To me, it feels like NT is doing what ThunderCats did. Cast the old lion-O voice to be the dad of the new lion-O. Hell, if Sparda speaks, I wouldn't be suprised if we hear Reuben Langdoon's voice.:D

he might have been designed that way as a shout-out to the old series and it makes more sense for Sparda to be dressed in 18th century dinner wear than Dante or vergil.
