Does anyone think we will be able to "relate" with new Dante

I can relate alot more with classic dante, but unless I am a smoking half angel/demon with a cool weapons set, then I dont relate very well...
(by the way, does anyone know if New Dante drinks?)

Dante woke up with a hangover at the start of the new trailer so he definitely drinks. (He hasn't smoked since the first trailer so NT might have taken that out)

I bet he drinks.

The old Dante apparently did.

Yeah, It might have been a smart move on NT's part, Dont want the FDA on their cases....
(I dont think classic dante evry got drunk, even though he drank alot....)

I remember hearing that in the manga they had Dante drinking tomato juice and changed it to beer in releases outside of Japan? Although I am not sure, I used to have the Japanese versions and then sold them and I dunno where my English Code 1 is. I am not sure why they would bother to change it if it's true, I actually thought him drinking tomato juice was quirky-cool. I like tomato juice as well and it grosses people out see me drinking it. XD

Dante does drink the heavy stuff though, there are bottles of what look like JD on his table in the intro of Dante in DMC1, and all over the floor in his office in DMC3 are what look like spirits. I always assumed it wasn't that Dante was an alci, he had demonic tolerance and it took more for him to get happy.

^he also had beer cans all over the floor in the Animated series, so he could have picked up his drinking habit post-DMC1, Pre-DMC2

I can totally relate to new Dante.
He dyed his hair, I dyed mine. He smoked, I smoked. He's labelled the black sheep of the city, I was labelled the black sheep of the school. He says something like church just keeps dragging on, which I agree with. He's not just talk but he's action too, which I look up to and try to achieve myself. He wears red and black, I like red and black. The world is out to get him, and I feel like that too sometimes so I think new Dante is totally relatable.

You don't have to have things specifically in common with a character to relate to how they feel. I related to Luke Skywalker's pain at the loss of family and his frustration at failures in achieving his goals. I'm not even a Jedi... yet. ...God! They want the impossible...

Hmm, when you put it like that, I might have more in common with Dante than I thought.

Honestly, I relate to this Dante's mindset. When you're at a restaurant and some Hippo is about to order the whole f#cking place, then they order a diet drink...

When I saw that fat ass dude drinking that soda I thought (As I always do,) In an angry Will Smith voice: "Man, what the **** are you- (slaps can) Get that **** out yo' hand! You are not helping your condition sir! Ma- G-Go! Find a treadmill! I don't get off until you look like me!!!"

You know we all think things like this. I think it's these social quirks that this game is satirizing. Dante is us. The way we feel when we look at the crazy world around us. (Looks over shoulder) A-Are you... I thought I said...! (Chases fat dude.)

I think a lot of people will be able to relate with the "Do not accept the world as it is" theme, or feeling like an outcast, or even standing up against a world where corporations/governments (demons) pull the strings in a way that the rest of the population cannot see or be a part of it (represented by Limbo)

In all seriousness, I couldn't really "relate" to the old Dante much. In terms of his past:
  • One or both of his parents died when he was eight
  • Some vague stuff happened for the next ten or so years
  • He doesn't care to know the fate of his father
  • He is now more or less carefree.
But he loved having fun and being a juggernaut among men, and I think that's what was important about his character. People loved his lighthearted banter and generally flippant, aloof mood.

I couldn't relate to him at all, but it was fun. In a sense, I guess we as gamers could immerse ourselves in the story by taking on Dante's persona and feeling like an invincible badass for the entire game.

In DmC:
  • One or both of his parents died at some point in time
  • He doesn't know his mother, it's still sort of vague about his dad
  • He grew up abused in orphanages and foster homes
  • He hates demons and doesn't care for authority, but also likes to have fun. He's closer to DMC1 Dante in his balance between humor and seriousness
Oh, and he's also an invincible orphan, which we still can't relate to. But I'm pretty sure NT is good at characterization and story, so I doubt he'll be hard to relate to. I can't see myself disliking this Dante.
