Having 'styles' was simply a way to make up for the limitations of the button set up and limited move set. Because of the way the controls had been set up, there was no other way to incorporate the entire move set without running out of button options, so you have to switch to an entirely new button set just to include the ability to perform special moves. They called these 'styles' but truthfully, all it changed, usually, was the function of the single button special move you perform. (of course certain styles added things like wall running which should have been possible in any style since it does not require a button press to activate) On top of all that, weapon choices were limited to ease the weapon selection process and allow quicker weapon switching on the fly. Styles are an inefficient way of control set up.
With the new control set up it will be possible to perform moves simply by holding the trigger button indicating the type of power the move is associated with. Jumping while firing your guns in angel performs a rinsing rainstorm, jumping while pressing demon performing a traditional rainstorm. Standing and firing in angel performs twosome time while demon performs a charged shot in human form the guns fire normally. Six different functions easily accessible and added without having to take your thumb away from the controls to switch styles on the d-pad or even take your thumb off the action button or. joystick. If royal guard is added, it could be a single button block in demon form like the in Ninja Gaiden. (except holding it down won't keep blocking.) pressing the same button while in angel form performs a dodge.
This form-based system also affects weapon changes. There are four different weapons, each have three different forms . This increases the number of weapons Dante can carry to twelve. By pressing a button on the d-pad a base weapon is selected (rebellion) the weapons form is selected by the power you are using, demon, angel. (Axe, Scythe) If a weapon is selected while already in a form, it will already appear in the transformed state associated with that form. So, for instance, up gets you Rebellion and left or right trigger gets you either it's angel form or demonic form. This way makes it possible to switch instantly to one preferred weapon, out of a whopping twelve, with a single button press, if it's a base weapon, and trigger squeeze, if it's a form one.
Every iteration of Devil may cry brought innovations to it's game play or system, this is Ninja Theory's contribution to the franchise, an advanced, condensed, efficient control system. Where all moves weapons and actions are accessible with the press of a button.
In conclusion... F#ck Styles.
